Fuck man rosemary dont sit well with me, think I'm mildly allergic.
Hmmm, that's a new one on me, but understandable. Another good spice I use are fennel seeds, gives it that "sausage" flavor.

Honestly, I didn't even notice. Think it might be a trick of the eyes, but could be a baby salamander. Only snakes we have in western WA are garter snakes, and they have colors when hatched. But still, good eye.

Last pics from today. Might upload some video later on, but I'm busy at the moment making soup. Happy hunting everyone!

Right on man, that’s such a beautiful patch of cyans. Was blessed to be able to find a few dune cyanescens on the coast today!

Lovely. I've always kept it in the back of my mind that is where they originated from, much like azures. Have yet to have the pleasure of finding wild cyans, but it's on my bucket list. Congratulations, and I truly mean that.
I toy around with the idea of wild dune cyans being spread through spores in the old sawmills back in the 1800's.

I'm so disappointed and disgraced by the quality compared to past videos, even going as far back as 2012. Hopefully I'll be able to splurge on a 4k camera and new laptop this next month. But I do appreciate the kind words. Thank you

Thanks, that means a lot coming from a legendary hunter such as yourself mate. That’s an interesting cool theory. What kind of wood do you believe was releasing the spores from those old sawmills? Was also blessed to find my first azurescens today as well. Such a beautiful species I’m beyond grateful to God that I was able to find a few specimens and experience them on the beautiful coast. Looking forward to all the future finds as well I know you’re gonna find some epic stuff.

I'm glad you got to find some, and experience the hunting of wild azures. This area is their only wild habitat in the entire world, and I feel that people sometimes forget that, overlook the importance of it, or simply disgrace it while they tear at the ground like uneducated mongoloids dressed in bathrobes carrying a Jack in the box bag (literally seen that exact example first hand).
Not so much the wood releasing spores, but old loggers tracking around spores to sawmills. Old growth fir, spruce and hemlock trees that their bark was covered in spores during fall fruiting, before the area was even touched by modern man hunting actives. It's an odd thing to really break down how spores spread through human interaction. Azures are so fickle with their natural environment that they seem to have stayed in their original area. But cyans, in my mind, love being around people, and were tracked away from the coastal areas of wa, or, and Canada by the original loggers and foresters who tracked through the areas that were viable habitat for the species, trudging along with sawdust and mud caked boots, picking up spores along the way as they forged their destiny into the untamed wilderness that is the pacific northwest coast.
Just kinda rambling my thoughts. Apologies everyone.

Yes, I felt humbled to the core and it was just an all around amazing experience. I agree that a lot of folks miss the sacredness of the wild azurescens and importance of maintaining the suitable habitats on the coast where they grow there and there alone. I’ve only been researching mycology and different species since last Fall. I’m happy that I waited till now in my life to search for such a rare species. I feel I was able to truly take in the full beauty and parameter of the importance of these beautiful beautiful mushrooms. As you said they only grow in this particular area of the planet. Was more than content to even find one.:-) Thanks for taking the time to answer that man, that’s super intriguing and I’ll wager you’re dead right. You do a damn good job of describing things, that’s the kind of history lesson I would eat right up. God bless those loggers! So interesting how the azures are extremely adamant in remaining on the pnw coast. Felt super blessed to have found some in Washington not even on the most southern point. Curious if the sand acts as like a super casing for them during the super cold months and hotter months? From what I saw it seemed like there was woody driftwood buried in the sand along next to the dune grass. So I guess my question is if that’s correct in assuming that they use the lignin from the dune grass roots as well as the wood combined(cased in sand) in order to thrive and eventually fruit?

Neo, in regards to wild wood lovers there is some interesting info here as to their potential origin.

NeoSporen said: Either just saute them in oil, or wash in egg, roll in crushed up Ritz and deep fry. You gotta catch them at the right time tho, they shouldn't have a stinky smell or darker colored flesh. They can be a bit intimidating due to their appearance, time consuming to clean, smell, and texture, but they are probably my 2nd favorite edible just behind Matsutake.
The other day I cut zucchini into thin strips, put chunks of fried lobsters, bit of garlic, cilantro and mozzarella, then rolled them up, wash in egg & roll in Panko, then deep fried for about 5 minutes.
Hope this helps
Glad to see you Neo always enjoyed reading your past threads. Very knowledgeable I've learned a lot from reading your posts. Bellingham is a great area enjoy it !
I absolutely love Matsutaki it is my favorite as well. I've only ever found them in the coast range of OR never in the Cascades. Maybe because the areas I hunt in the Cascades are higher up in elevation than the area I forage in the coast range. I would think that Matsutaki would be in the Cascades down here I've just yet to find them there.

Night pictures.

This is what i try to explain to people about "riparian habitat". Not good for anything except spreading mycelium this year, but it's quite the sight to see. Nostalgic to my 2012 season

Those night shots are so damn beautiful. Thanks for sharing the riparian habitat shot as well! Definitely know some spots like that in my area I can start spreading species at.
