Isolating makes for a weaker growth?

Hey guys, I didn't expect this... I have been isolating a strain to find a more 'ropey' example and I chose the right sectors to grow from more. BUT I'm looking at them now and they look very feeble. I thought isolating will make it grow stronger... And more rhyzomorphic. As you can see in the pics I took a small piece of a good 'branch' - and thought it would make it more branchy and healthy. This looks like they are suffocating....

Nothing about this hobby = just do "x" and "y" will always happen. Keep working.

Good answer.
There's more going on than you assume. The pictures you've posted prove absolutely nothing. Keep at it and you'll see.

Thanks guys! I will keep working! But is there a more scientific reason for this to happen? I'm more of a 'why?' guy.

gotta disagree there, while conditions cause some unexpected things, mycology is a science, not some haphazard free for all.
isolating mycelium is x, obtaining an isolate is Y..
the disconnect for OP is that he thinks that merely isolating a monoculture = isolating a GOOD monoculture.

There is also a disconnect in thinking that a pretty looking agar plate equals a "good" culture.
OP might have an absolute winner right there that may well get negatively affected in actual performance as a fruiter by fucking with it further. In that sense it actually is a bit less of a locked down science for us guys at home.

I didn't say that it wasn't a science or that it was a haphazard free for all. I'm not entirely sure what you think you're disagreeing with.

Its only not locked down if you are isolating ONE isolate and HOPING it will be what you want.
if you want more precision, refine 20 isolates and test them. shoebox totes are sold at the dollar store. you can run 20 test shoeboxes for like a 30 dollar investment.

It's funny how a lot of newbies have not only elaborate theories but very strong convictions to go with it. Just because their brown rice cakes sprouted a few mushrooms.
People. I mean fellow newbies. Stop trying to confuse your fellow newbies with the theories you came up with while tripping. And quit being smart with TCs and TIs because they will get tired with all this smarty-pant antics and stop looking at our threads, and stop sharing their experiences with us.
If you have read something somewhere, quote it. So that we know it is based on somebody's experience and not just your imagination.
