Pressure cooker blow out! Why!

Ok. I bought a brand new 21 qt all american PC. I made up 3, 4 pound grain spawn bags. I wrapped them in wet towels and lined the inside edges of my PC with canning rings to keep them from touching the sides and melting. I put the second grated jar rack ring thing on top of all three bags to prevent the bags from expanding and blocking the release valve hole below the petcock. At first thought I was hesitant and thought about not filling up my PC more than 1/2 way because the giant orange warning sticker says precisely not to do exactly what I wanted to do. I even looked up online why I should listen to this advice and to my surprise thier wasn't really an answer. So I did it anyways. I read a few peoples comments and saw that lots of people essentially stuff their pc's without incident. To my dismay this was not the case for me. My PC only got to about 12 psi before the safety release valve thing popped off and purple water shot about 18 feet to the max height of the vaulted ceiling in my moms kitchen which has white ceilings. The water was purple because the towels I wrapped my spawn bags in were kibda blue like. Apparently 260 degree water will suck the dye right out if them. My question is (why)? I retested my PC without any bags in and the petcock started rocking as it should at 15 psi and the safety valve thing is still in place. So it works great empty. So does overfilling your PC change the pressure point for the safety plug thing? I am going to risk it and try again with just 2 bags this time. It got 3/5s of the way to 15 psi, maybe decreasing the amount by 1/3 is the correct mathmatecical solution. That is sarcasm. I have no fucking idea why It exploded. I had a rock on top of the upper ring that was on my bags. I mean the cooker was like 4/5 full. I hope that's why it happened.

Follow the instructions next time on how to operate your PC and it will probably work as intended. Instructions to my Presto 23 says to use 3 quarts of water and that's what I use every single time and I've used it for years without an incident. But why your safety vent released o 12 PSI I have no clue..

Im guessing that when packed almost full the air pressure is different in different sections of the pot. No Idea for sure but I got one 4 pound bag in thier now and it's working fine.i I really want to be able to do at least 2 bags at a time though.

Going for 2 bags RN...oh shit it's working kinda. Strange though. The petcock (the weight) is releasing at14 psi. The fuller the pot the more inaccurate the gauge is. I Think im going to stick with 2 bags. No more. Trial and error is the always the most educational.

That's physically not possible and doesn't even make sense. So what does the manual say, how many qt of water does it need to operate? Please read and follow the instructions given in the manual on how to correctly AND safely operate the pressure cooker.

The manual does nit say how many quarts. It refers to how many quarts when doing 7 quart jars of food. It just says don't fill the PC over halfway when using for cooking. Obviously when doing grain spawn bags its going to be different than jars. With all the towels packed in there. reasoning for not over filling your pressure cooker is because food can get stuck in the petcock. That did not happen in my case though. Obviously 90 percent of the people on this site are filling their PC's more than half way. Probably not 4/5 of the way but most likely beyond the advised safety level. The other possibility I thought of is that the water level expanded and blocked the petcock. But every place that says why not to refers to food or sauces plugging the valve because they are thicker. I'm just going to stick with 2 bags.

Don't ever put a towel in your PC again, idk what you where getting that from. Get rid of the rings too, useless.
Look up tedsdead's threads for a pictorial of spawn bags and PC loading.
Notice he puts the canning rack on top of the bags before putting the lid on, this is to ensure proper venting (extremely important).
Any thoughts after seeing that Tek?
