Joining the party because I am confident I will have some fuckups to share soon. Very soon. I have some bags going as we speak. Fingers crossed. Already lost a few.

Honestly I don't remember what strain. I think they were both Puerto Rico. Tote #2 definitely looked a little more blue, eh? It had a slightly more green hue in person compared to the photos, but was definitely blue. What are your thoughts on Tote #1? Trich? This is my new favorite thread!

So whisky and sterile work dont mix... back to back clean sessions with bacterial snot on the 12th (top 2 plates) and all sorts of colorful molds on the 13th (bottom row)... i know I was being sloppy but it also just popped in my head, if I wanted to save these moldy plates (I dont) wouldn't it be better to take xfers in an SAB? Wouldn't the flow hood just blow nasty spores all about? I over do all my transfers so I always have plates going, but this is more contams than I've had at all recently...

I confess I opened the PC after a cycle and found that the bottom of one jar of wheat broke and made a mess. Not a big deal besides leaving the rest of the jars really sticky and starchy and a starchy PC too. I was surprised to see that lots of spilled kernels weren't even burst.

Surprised you didn’t have a deck covered in birds. I always expect to find that when I leave by grains out to dry. Seems like the only ones getting fat on my grains are the voles and mice.

^^^ relatable. We've had a boom year here for red backed meadow voles and they think my backyard is heaven. They REALLY like the barley. cat is pleased by this. Mushboy I can't imagine what that smelled like. I've left like 10lbs soaking in a covered pot too close to the woodstove for a few days and just the smell from that fermenting was pretty special when I came home and popped the lid...

Is it really cobweb? I've never seen it before, or at least to my knowledge I haven't seen it before. I've seen mold and shit on my compost pile, but there's so much going on that I don't know what's what.

Its a pin mold.
Cobweb grows faster and doesn't hold back. Reaches away from the substrate a lot. And is closer to white than grey

Love the idea of this thread. I always thought that as well, nobody knows how many times you have to fuck up to get to where these pros are today. I have one grow under my belt so I'm a total professional. Professional fuckup
I'm sure I'll have something to post here soon. I have my first ever agar to home prepped grain going and although the plates looked clean, I have low hopes. Probably fucked up the sterile technique. I also have some agar plates growing stuff right now! The problem is, I haven't opened them yet!
-------------------- I'm here to learn. I'm also willing to help. If I'm wrong on something, please call me out. I am not resistant to new information, but I always carry a healthy dose of skepticism. “It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure.” -Albert Einstein

Wellll I think my first go at grains is going to be a fuck up soon.
I'm using unmodified lids and I forgot to leave them a little loose in the PC so when I (eventually, they were tight) opened them in the SAB the vacuum caused air to get sucked in. Fingers crossed at least one or two of the jars get away with it but I don't have high hopes.
I'm also thinking my grain may be a little dry...

Pin molds don't fuck around. In fact most of the molds do. It sucks that there isn't any benefit to em, the mycologist in me is always amazed at how quickly shit can turn south, or north for a different species I guess.
I had a pint jar of a pleurotus spawn get trich and I could've sworn it was literally two hours before the jar was fucking caked with trich mycelium.
