First time cultivation - got an in vitro pin - should I birth and fruit the cake?
    #26953841 - 09/25/20 04:03 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Hi everyone..

This is my first time posting in these forums, and first time cultivating mushrooms.

I inoculated my substrate 5 weeks ago. And the colonization has been very good. Over the last week, there hasn't been any new mycelium growth on the sides, but only on the top where it's started reaching through the dry verm layer.

The cake has shrinked, and can now easily move inside the box. There's also a bit of water collected at the bottom.

Yesterday I noticed something thick and white on the top. And today I can see a golden cap, so I know it's a fruit.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is my cake fully colonized and ready to begin fruiting?
2) Is it contaminated? (last photo)

Photos of my colonized substrate:

Photos of the in-vitro fruit:

Photo of possible contam. Something powdery on the walls. Is this contam?

Sorry to bump this up again. Can someone help me with this?
Based on the photos, is my substrate ready to be birthed?

It is fruiting, so I think it says it's ready.  Might as well birth it and give it some air!

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
