Flame sterilization in front of flow hood

Hello everyone I just purchased a new flow hood, and I have read a few articles stating that using a Bunsen burner inside the hood messes with the laminar flow by causing the hot air to rise ending in air flow turbulence. How do people get around this? Thanks all

Do you have a 'real' enclosed flow hood?
Maybe any professional article would be talking about the medical flow hoods; which arent always open.
I have a bactizapper now.. much better experience. When i did use burner it was closest to me at end of table away from flow hood. I turned flame all way down between sterlization.

Yeah I have a legitimate Laminaire cabinet, enclosed on both sides and top but not anything on the front side. I could put a side table right against the workbench but i would feel better not taking any instrument to the edge of the laminar stream

I flame my tools in open air and quickly move them into the flow once red hot. Never have problems.
Edit: I use a bernz-o-matic propane torch. Bunsen burner seems old school, but I like it lol

I flame my scalpel, on the back edge of my flowhood. If you are working in front of the torch it shouldn't matter. The laminar flow is in front of the filter. Anything that happens behind it shouldn't matter.

Also do you use the bacti-zapper for your scalpel as well? Looked into it but someone turned me away. Thanks for your insight I really appreciate the help from everyone

bactizapper works perfect with a scalpel.. larger or smaller blades had no problem. I'm careful not to scratch the ceramic with it.. metal is metal. I can't speak on longevity.

That's awesome I will definitely invest, there's an outlet inside the hood begging to be used!

Put your torch in the corner furthest from the filter face. Right side if right handed left side if left handed. Face the torch flame away from the face.
My torch is always the furthest thing from the filter face. Anything between it and the filter is safe since the air hasnt hit the torch yet
