I’ve worked with all equipment described in this post from pasty plates ( I never made nor worked with rather showed one how to do transfers for their personal agenda) for a beginner i would recommend a set of dishes which is $65-$100 for 500, make a Sab that’s hopefully $5 if you’ve got some tools or someone you know who has tools, and bam guarantee you, your contam rate will go down as long as your making good sterile procedure follow bods tek or something
You simply need the right tools and know how’s to progress on
And yeaaaaaa first flowhood was a 12x24 Now running a 24x48 so much better It’s choice

I pour my agar in a SAB though. I sterilize the media in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes. No flowhood needed.
When you are buying petris in bulk its literally pennies per dish.

I bet i can whittle the cost of my borosilicate plates down to the point that they've not only paid for themselves but are actually turning a profit based on cost per use analysis. And I'm saving turtles.

I'm sure. I actually did the math on yours a few weeks ago. It's obviously a good idea. Although i didn't calculate the cost of energy involved in sterilizing them. But then again, I didn't calculate in the amazing value of each turtle saved. But then again, again, I didn't calculate in the cost of each turtle fart and breath that exacerbates global warming and there by kills off penguins there by neutralizing global warming. Hmmmmm. Time for a beer.

I did a shit ton of research on that size last week. The best place I could find for 99.99% filtration was spycor @ $500 including, tax & shipping(to me). It was a 24x48x6. Make sure to find the shipping price when shopping, as some sites add $200 or more. Spycor was like $40.
Would be super interested if you find a better deal.

48x18 is an excellent size if you want to search that size as well. My hood is this size and I really see no need to be a full 2 feet high. Even G2G with bags is not an issue.

How thick is the filter you use? I'm under the impression these HEPA's need to be 5-6" width?
Anyone using like 2" width HEPAs for laminar flow hood? I want to make sure i can't use these before i pay 200+ because i've found 16x18x2 HEPAs for 70 bucks..
Oh yeah, btw Smart that APE 'globe' pic is SICK

I could be wrong here, but I believe the filter depth will indicate how long it will last. i.e. a 2 inch filter will have a shorter life span than a 6 inch filter. i'm pretty sure i'm right, but I could be wrong too

as i now understand, 6"+ width filters are necessary for laminar flow.

Whats the efficiency rating of said filter? Mine I think are 3" thick and are 99.999% ( three digits ) and I know people have used similar filters for many years. If you properly per-filter your filter you should basically never really worry about the life of the thing.
