Liberty caps? (south uk, second time lucky?)
    #26952508 - 09/24/20 10:48 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat:

These were found in the south UKin a forest on fallen, dead trees. rotting wood, in soil in the cracks (you can see the mossy soil they were in)

Stems between 2 and 4cm length

They have the nipple.

Bruising:
purplish blue, bluer when I got home.

gill print being done as we speak. Just wanted some first impressions.

I don't know how else to describe them, I hope the pictures help!

Some are slightly greyish and I think might be different (they haven't gone blueish)

I picked a whole bunch more, mostly growing on dead wood, from bright yellow clusters to redish brown oyster kinds, but these seemed the most promising. I'll upload the others for ID later!

Thanks everyone!

You have a couple of different Mycena species. Psilocybe semilanceata aka liberty caps doesn't grow on rotting wood. They feed off decaying grass roots.

These are a Galerina species, what you’re mistaking for the blue staining caused by the psychoactive alkaloids in Psilocybe, and other psychoactive genera, is actually caused by minute fibrils being appressed against the stem showing the darker tone of the stem surface beneath the fibrils.
There are skads of small brownish, orangish, reddish Galerina species out there, probably most haven’t ever even been categorized, since they’re so easily overlooked, it’s a travesty how little attention has been paid to the genus Galerina, it is marvelously rich in elegance and beauty, when the time is taken to appreciate there Lilliputian charms.
Oh and you should assume that they are quite poisonous, since mushrooms in the genus are known to contain potent and deadly amatoxins.
That’s all lots of people know about the genus!
