Happy to hear you say that Jake. For your sake and because just a few days after I bought my crockpot for Pan substrate because of you. You write that you got to much contam and will be going back to bags...
I have had nothing but success since then with my crock pot tho. Just a hand full a growths tho.
So I'm happy you are trying it again with success
Saw my first Pan Cam sandose pins this morning
And side note just because it was at the same time as seeing the pan pins I saw I needed to harvest my first ever Gymnopilus Lut.

Yeah I mean I knew it would work again for me because I’ve literally use that method hundreds of times now with consistent success I don’t know exactly what the issue was I didn’t really change anything but yeah the last time I tried to do it 10 out of 10 contaminated immediately and I tried it a few different times I got so frustrated and just switched to sterile bags for the summer but I really didn’t run all that much because I knew My failure rate and contamination speed would increase by a good bit so I’ve mostly been working with plants over the summer but now that things are getting cold again and I’m just about finished up winterizing my greenhouse is I will shift back into mycology. I’m gonna our a lot of my focus into cordyceps again as I have that Entire finished lab and grow space just sitting there but I just didn’t have the time to commit to it over the summer and I also was struggling with some contamination problems up there but mostly there was just no time so I’m excited to get back at that also. And finally I just got an email telling me my replacement HEPA filter for my agar lab arrives today which means I can finally resume making SS’s

Did you ever figure out the cause of the contam or suspect anything? I had a good couple weeks with pasteurization where nothing contamed and now it’s back again. But only with my pan subs. My other subs I’ve only lost one bag. I’m doing three hour 160f pasteurization now too. Can’t figure it out. It’s really frustrating when it happens to a casing.
Tried to make some pan bags the other night and had the PC on a timer but the switch was in the on position but the lettering was worn off so I couldn’t tell. Cooked the bags for 9 hours. They still actually look like they have a good bit of moisture and don’t smell burnt so I tried them out anyway.

It could be a few things first of all on grain and even when taking grain to bulk pans can be very picky about the moisture content if it’s too wet they just stall, Also even if your Spawn looks healthy if the culture that grew over at moves really slowly I’ve noticed that those cultures often times fail when you try to take it to bulk pans should move fast if not the culture likely won’t be very rewarding. I never did figure out exactly what was causing my issues it could’ve been a combination of a few things but whatever it was it isn’t happening now and the only difference is the temperature outside. Last summer I also had a much more difficult time growing pans

Do these do better in trays inside a sfc or in a shallow monotub? Will either do the trick?

New tub seems to be doing great I thought I may have an issue running the same fogger to both tubs but it seems to be fine and keeps a nice surface. The airtight tub makes the evap so much more efficient as well. I absolutely love these tubs. Best FC I’ve ever had.

Update on the outdoor cinctulus For the few out there that actually care about cinctulus. I cased it and it looks good it had some gnats but a few drops of peppermint oil took care of them instantly.

Final update on wheat bran experiment. Unfortunately they have aborted. First I picked just a cluster but by the next day the majority aborted and harvested all.
Dry weight was 0.16g
For total dry weight of 0.68g of aborts. Compared to 1.1g out of 2 containers of staw/manure the same size using the same clone. All the pins on second flush have aborted so I threw it out... Conclusion... I don't know. They're big size may have been due to more water in the verm. But wheat bran looks like a good additive. Or this kind of cake could be used as spawn.

Do you have a write-up of your FC anywhere? Sounds like sealed tub w/ fogger inlet on a timer, filtered inlet/exhaust fans on a different timer? And from your pics the other day I'm guessing temp control and baseline humidity comes from heated water at the bottom?

No but it’s a lot like JOCs rub system in fact the exact same idea. Only mine uses a pc fan and the fogger is seperate. Look up JOCs pan tek. All I did different was install a pc fan on the side facing out to suck dry air through the filters. First tub interior strip lighting and waterproof pc fan.
Second tub attached to same 4L fogger and has a seal and clamps lid so the only air coming in comes through the filters during the fan cycle. I just set it up but it’s working great. I have that one running like a monotub of huasteca. The fogger is one three mins and fan kicks on for on min at the last 15 seconds of the fog cycle and then off for ten mins before starting again
