Mushrooms in a hole: Michigan
    #26949269 - 09/22/20 12:32 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

My friend is digging post holes to put in a fence; he spotted these. This is in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Hopefully I can convince him to pick one for a spore print and gill shot. Its not in a cow pasture, but he did spread manure last year. Any ideas?

I never imagined that I would die falling face first into a seven foot hole tryna reach mushrooms to get high, but I may just go there and find out...

Honestly, I'm expecting they are galerina marginata, as I'm not sure that active mushrooms looking like this grow this far north. It's be wonderful to discover a new species though; worth the extra effort to ID.

I would guess Pholiota for these.  It would help to see a closeup of the underside.

I am in Michigan too!

Righteous, which mitten?

I moved up to the Upper Peninsula from California a few years ago, and the forests out here have won my heart.

I am near Dalton, drove out from California for an event called Midwest Mushroom Camp.

It's a bit dry here this year, there's more mushrooms where you are at the moment.
