Looks like either Fomitopsis pinicola (red-belted polypore), or Ganoderma applanatum (artist's conk) to me, but I'm not much of an ID'er.
And the two are pretty similar, so you can be the judge, or post in the ID forum for a proper ID.

Can someone identify the species, please?
I saw her family in a European forest on a dead tree. I went back with a knife to take a small sample when I noticed her on the ground. Someone broke her and throw her away.
Now she is saved on agar.
I wonder if I can eat a bit of her as a powder. Not from the one that I found on the ground but what I grow. I read that Reishi is associated with money and sex in Asia. But what is not? Maybe it’s enough if I grow her at home.

Aw sweet I love when folks try to grow the medicinal tree conks!

Thanks to all the guys and gals who made this thread the thoroughly enjoyable read that it was. It took me 5 days (on and off) to read it all. I recently found a lovely specimen of G.Resinacium here in Southeast England and am currently trying to clone it to agar. And liquid culture. I will post results here if anyone is interested? Thanks

I am! Should be a nice, easy clone compared to others. Good luck

It’s not looking very good. The tissues I took look very weak on the agar plate. I’m was hoping for a thick white healthy mycelium but it just seems weak. I’m not sure what if anything I’m doing wrong. My agar is made with agar and Karo. Here’s some photos I just took transfers of one of the plates to see if I can get it going properly. And the other plate had been left unopened. Thanks

Karo water agar is the worst recipe that exists imo.

You know something, I’ve just realised that literally all my agar work has been crap. I’m starting to wonder if it’s the agar I bought, or worse still as you have mentioned the Karo? Edit. Just bought some M/E we will see how that goes. Fortunately there s a steady supply of fresh Ganoderma Resinacium over the forest where I live. Thanks

Karo is fine as a supplement to potato’s or brown rice but on its own? That’s definitely a problem. Your cultures are probably all sugar shocked and no wonder they look like shit. I’d look like shit too and lack vigor if all I ate was McDonalds. Not saying that’s all that’s going on in those plates but it’s definitely not helping matters.

Thanks again pasty and bod. As I said I have bought some light malt extract (Barley) and am hopeful this will change things. I will report back ASAP. I will need to go back and harvest some more G.Resinacium as I used that last beauty for a tincture.
Thanks 🙏

You should not need to go out and harvest more in order to get a better clone. The ones on your Karo agar look to be healthy Ganoderma mycelium with no signs of contamination, if a bit disappointing in speed. You should be able to just transfer from that onto the MEA and it should take right off. If European G.resinaceum is anything like the American variant (G.sesile) and it should be because the two are very closely related it should be a very speedy and vigorous mushroom.

Oh really? Wow thank you so much that has given me a renewed hope. I’m going to get on that today as my malt has literally just turned up!
Thanks again I’ll report back.
