Has anyone besides me ever listened to "Rasa" while tripping
    #2694892 - 05/18/04 05:19 AM (13 years, 11 days ago)

I know that at least one other person has.  Rasa: Devotion, and Rasa: Shelter are beautifully sung Hindu prayers.  They are soothing and calming to listen to, but oh shit, I start to feel incredibly weird after listening to them for awhile during the trip.  I think that when tripping this music can easily lull you into a meditative state, and when that happens things can get amazingly just...weird.

I've had some of my weirdest experiences on mushrooms ever while listening to Rasa, and I was wondering if anyone else has listened to them while tripping.

Probably not, but I thought I'd ask!

Okay, they're not technically Hindu prayers *looks on back of CDs*

Okay:

Inspired by the ancient Vedic Culture of India, they are Sacred Sanskrit Chants and Bengali Devotional Songs.  There's no lyrics listed to the songs, but they are amazing.

I found both Rasa: Devotion and Rasa: Shelter equally wonderful.  And seriously...things have happened to me while tripping to them that I cannot explain.  Very strange and infinately compelling.  Definately worth a listen, in my opinion.

I hope you check them out, Krishna!

searching kazaa and soulseak as I type this... I'll definitely give it a listen. I remember "borrowing" my father's CDs of Sanskrit prayers and chants (for example, the Bhagavad Gita, which is meant to be sung, not read) and listening to them while tripping. My understanding of Sanskrit is really minimal - I only know a few prayers (or I guess the more proper term would be "hymns") that I've sustained from my youth. But the sound of the words themselves are very spiritual, in my eyes...

EDIT: Just found the whole "devotion" album and started downloading it... yep I know many of these songs (not in this version, but in other versions). There is a very funny version of "Govinda Jaya Jaya" by the band Kula Shaker on their album "K"

The real centerpiece here that takes these traditional tracks to another place is the mesmorizing voice of Kim Waters. She sings in such a breathy, sensual way that one cannot help but stop and listen. Her voice is trancendent and goes down like honey dripping over your soul.

Gonna put it on, the next time i trip

Dreaming of that face again. It's bright and blue and shimmering. Grinning wide and comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes
