Different bear, different personality.

On the internet, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of threads of "will xxx kill a bear?"
What many people don't realize is bears have personality, just like humans. It is often a result of their environment.
Black bear - Curious, timid, often not larger than 200-250 lbs (about the size of a large man)
Brown bear - Eating machines, only the really large ones are usually referred to as "grizzlys" rare in the lower 48.
Polar bear - The most aggressive and dangerous to humans, probably cause they are freezing their nuts off most of the year and it makes them angry.
Just like with sharks, a dangerous bear is one that has gotten accustomed to the taste of human meat.
Up in Alaska large grizzly are often found with multiple slugs in their pelts. Those that took those shots are either rotting under a tree somewhere, digested, or lucky to be alive.
If you live in the lower 48 and you don't live in Montana or Idaho, you are much more likely to run into wild dogs or tweakers in the back country.
For dogs, keep a can of pepper spray or mace(Both are extremely effective against dogs) just cause of how sensitive their sense of smell is. Trust me....
Tweakers? A 9 would work just fine, but even better.... use your words...

Draw a circle in the sand, obviously.

I had a run in with black bear, full grown male. Scared hin off pretty quick by raising my arms and yelling.
Just an interesting factoid. After WWII my grandfather was stationed in Alaska. A buddy and him would go to Kodiak Island and Bow hunt Full grown Kodiaks, dangerous that, but after WWII must of seemed not so bad.

Most of the time they are pretty timid. They have to be, living so close to humans.
My big foot theory is, even if there was one, he's been long murdered by hicks with guns.
Anything moving around in the brush come hunting season is getting lit up.

Your gramps was one ballsy guy. Those grizzly up there supposedly get enormous, ive heard around 3/4 ton.
My aunt married a logger that spent most of his life in Alaska.
1. Stay away from the cubs 2. Never run, if that bear sees the bottom of your feet, you are prey. Same thing applies to dogs.
