Thought I'd finally found caerulipes

Thought I'd finally found them, but these didn't blue at all. Unfortunately, I didn't keep and try for a spore print. Everything was very dry. We haven't had much rain here. Found these just north of Ithaca NY in national forest.
What do you guys think of these? I found them 5 mins into my hunt so I was pumped. But they didn't blue at all after 15 mins. And I had to go so I tossed them. The log is bucked into short pieces, so I'll harvest the logs and water them if it were worthwhile.

It is doubtful they were blue foots. Been having the same drought problems here not much of any mushrooms growing.

Could be Mycena or Galerina - spore prints aren't usually useful for identifying mushrooms, but it would be helpful in this case.

Wow, I've never felt like a starstruck moment before lol. Cool to have you replying to my post, Alan.
Most of the Mycena flushes I found were dried to a crisp.
All of the Galerina I found were on conifer; none with veil remnants. Most of them were tiny as well. 3-5mm caps max.
I did find some Hypholoma during this trip, and they were about the only thing still "new". The CoW and bears head I found were already bad.
I am not wrong looking for these mushrooms in this area am I, Alan?

Why are spore prints not useful? Seems to be a vital step in helping new foragers identify what they have?

If the spore prints from two different mushrooms are just has difficult to tell apart as the mushrooms themselves.

Yea they don't look quite right for Galerina or Mycena. It would be interesting to see more photos.
Looks like a good habitat for Psilocybe caerulipes. They are known from New York.

Spore prints aren't something I do often because it's better to find the spore color by looking at how the gills change color as they mature, or by looking for spores on nearby things. They take a lot of time, and mislead new people as often as they help. When the photos are extremely poor or it's an oddball like this, spore prints are helpful.
I mostly use spore prints for microscopy, when you scope spores from a print you know all of the spores are fully mature, and you can press down hard on the cover slip to force them all into the same focal plane, giving you really nice photos.

It looked like they wanted to flush again, but we won't have rain for a week. And its been a month since the last long storm.
I can stop by there again in a week and see if anything flushes. Maybe I can get you a slide.
