Thanks, Alien...that's pretty well precisely what I did. I used the plastic caps for the pressure and got six into each quart jar. When PC'd, the HG lids were screwed on fully. The fit in the mason jar was way tight. (I did not use a lid after the jars were placed back over the hot HGs during the cool-down). Two small derivations were: I used foil on the mason jar lids and PC'd the jars for longer than 60 minutes (from reaching pressure)...more like 75 minutes - I did that because of the double container issue. Probably unnecessary. That said, the majority of my containers did not have significant condensation - maybe six of them will need some days but most of the others were already dry or are well on their way. I have definitely learned my lessons about sediment!! And not using natural blue food coloring. Great suggestion about the colorant...I will definitely check it out. Are you referring to mica powder colorant - like for soap?
This was a trial run for -both- the tek and working with agar and I'm very happy with the results. Of course, we will have to see how the agar responds to my spore print transfers and attempts to clean up multi-spore syringes. In all, I don't have a game to change but I can see how this is a game changer and look forward to another go-round.

Lol. No bullshit, I was poking around looking for supplies the other day, new no-pour containers on my mind, and I ran across these things. Scooped up 40 just to give em a go. They just came in the mail, and now I'm running across this write up! Lmao. They definitely jumped off the page at me, and when I saw PP5, I was pumped! They really do seem superior to most other no-pour containers I've seen. I used the squat HP masons for a while, then the ziplock ones. The masons are so bulky and such a pain in the ass to see thru. The zip locks are clearer, but twice as big. It may be misguided, but I just have an affinity for the screwtop lids. I feel more secure. I've seen the pasty-tek and it's on point all the way, but I don't know how I feel about the pullback top. It's just me though,I know it's fine, but...
I did poke a top hole in the lids. Its force of habit I guess. I'm excited to get to use them tomorrow. Good find bro! I'm surprised more people arent rocking them. Most just "Go with what you know" I guess. Me, on the otherhand? I'm all for adding a little Cadillac to my Corrolla of an operation, minus the luxurious bill!

+you don't need to modify the HG containers with holes & micropore tape
No hate towards the pasty plates but asides from a marginal cost difference, I really can't see any reason why you would use the pasty plates over the HG plates...

What he says, no need to modify HG containers, that is one of their main advantages!
Pasty plates still have a utility that HG plates lacks, Pasty plates plastic is so soft, that you can detach the agar wedge by pushing the bottom base of the pasty container with your finger (kind of like giving it a massage) without having to open the plate, this is called Tiger drop i think, is a nice utility because you avoid a contamination vector that otherwise you would have if a scalpel was used to cut off the wedge, so pasty plates still rocks! You can do all the transfers with the HG plastes and then the last transfer you just use a pasty plate to tiger drop directly to a grain jar.

Much smoother run this time. The learning curve was not quite as steep and the methodology more dialed in. Did another 4 quart jars, six per jar. PC'd for 80 minutes (after venting for 10). Waited an hour after the pressure hit zero. Opened jars; re-balanced HG's and put 'em back in the jars. Wrapped them in blankets in a soft, insulated food carrier. Ended up with 5 or 6 with big-time condensation but the majority were either clear or will need a day or two. 3/4 ready or soon will be. Loving this Tek. Plotting the next go-round.

With the lid on tight has anyone noticed slower growth than say pasty plates? Im using LME.

I can't speak for pasty plates but the HG plates take a little under a week give or take to see the plate fully colonized for me. So like 20% colonization per day + a day or so for the wedge/clone/whatever to consolidate. This is just a rough estimate though - using 6% BRF agar Edit: 1.5% BRF agar

6% damn ive never made it that high. usually 2% or less. did you jump up there from 2% or gradually bump up?

Shit... my memory failed me/math was wrong. I use 1.5% BRF agar... Don't know where I got the 6% figure from
I make it with this recipe:
Quote:
bodhisatta said: 3 strengths of BRF agar were made The recipe is 400grams(mL) water 9g agar-agar (telephone brand) and then 2/4/6 grams of BRF
that's 2.25% agar-agar and 0.5/1.0/1.5 % BRF and some food coloring to try to make the low medium and high light medium and dark.

Here is an old but good thread on nutrition concentrations in agar.

It's been a Holy Grail day!!! What do you think Mr. Allen? I only got really bad condensation on the back row, the others still have some very light condensation, but hopefully the little bit left over will dry up.

Those are good results, for me the first 2 columns are ready to be used. Very little condensation on the second column. And third column need some time to dry.
That's around a 66% condensation-free rate.
What method you used?
With the nutcracker method i sometimes get 90%.

People have used those for agar before and they work well but they wouldn't have the same functionality as the holy grail plates as you would need to modify them for gas exchange. (a very small hole near the top with a piece or two of micro pore tape suffices)

Awesome thanks, we find it quite hard to come by most supplies listed in TEKs, here in Australia.
Yes for micropore already so no worries with the hole mod 😀
