Bug spray with a high content of deet should do the trick....hopefully; just keep reapplying If you are sweating.

Fuck deet best way is to not wear any fragrance, no deodorant, shampoo, detergent etc. Smoking tobacco will keep flying insects away from you too.

Nothing beats Lipoptena cervi. They sell deer fly-jackets here in Finland, which is basically just a thin netted coat you dress over your normal clothing. The most annoying insect I've ever encountered.

No repellent has ever worked. Light clothes doesn't help. Smoking tobacco makes worse. These fuckers tend to come more when i smoke. I go on field and with 5 minutes abot 20 of them crawl on me. I dont use fragrance. Only wash myself with soap. Todayi almost poked my eye out cuz 1 mf landed to my eye. 2 minutes tried to get it out. I really don't want that season to end bc of these bastards.

DEET works very well - the higher percentage the better.

Picaridin is a new molecule that works as well, but not quite as long.  It is not as bitter and doesn't dissolve plastics, so it's a pretty good one to look for.

https://www.mrmr.biz/picaridin-vs-deet-what-you-need-to-know/

For ticks spray permethrin on your clothes.

If deet dissolves plastic, I don't want to know what that does to skin. But worth triyng. Just putting that on clothes cuz deer ked first land on clothes.

Tell me about it. I get bitten by them every single season, on the most annoying places on my body, and
these bites can itch for weeks and even months. The forest path where I have hunted libs for a few seasons
is especially packed with these bastards. They seem especially fond of biting areas around my waist line.

I don't get bitten by them for some reason or then I just don't notice it and perhaps I'm not allergic to them. I know several people tho, who get the similiar itching bitemarks you described, even with very severe swelling. A moose is their main host here in Finland and I nowdays hunt libs pretty much only at the moose territory, like forest paths. They seem to like burrowing into my hair and behind the ears, also often land around my neck area. For me the main annoyance is the itching while they move around and dig deeper into my long hippie hair, not to forget the insane amounts of them around. It's like every 5-10 meters and you hear that short buzz. Once I counted over 20 hitchhikers inside my shirt and jacked after getting back home. I've tried every single repellent and haven't found anything that actually works against them.

Has anyone tried the deer fly patches that stick to the top of a hat? Different species, but maybe it would help.

DEET is pretty safe on skin.    There's a lot of things that dissolve plastic that aren't particularly harmful to touch.  It smells like it will give you cancer, but it doesn't.

Natural repellents sometimes work, but they usually need to be applied a lot more often.  There isn't any evidence that the natural chemicals that people use are any safer than the synthetic ones.

Yes, and no. They may be better or worse. I start with garlic and onion. The go on with other strong smelling things. I know that if I have done speed ( yes i know drugs are bad), then I don't know why, but no deer ked is ever landed on me (except 1 time when I got stuck with a car on stump, and tried hours getting free, then at the end they started attacking). It seems weird. I don't even know if our country has DEET. Estonia

DEET in Estonia:

There are no bad drugs, but people can definitely have bad relationships with drugs.  Be careful and use any drug with respect, and be extra careful if it's a molecule that many other people are in bad relationships with.

Are you saying that amphetamines repel biting flies?  I can't find much on Google about that but there is this:  https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/97aidz/are_mosquito_effected_by_drug_content_in_blood/

It is just my experience. Mby amphetamines repel deer ked mby not. I am not annoyed about other bugs. They don't disturb me such as those Lipoptena Cervi does. These fuckers are so annoying and they are so flattered by me. I have not done speed about 2 weeks mby. Can't go hunting , impossible. Before if I did speed , was on binge. None was after me . Hours in woods and none. Its weird.
