Human cremation ashes in substrate? (ashrooms)
#26946829 - 09/20/20 08:09 PM (3 years, 4 months ago) |

Fried of mine died two years ago, his only relative was his brother. Brother had his ashes divided by the funeral home 3 ways with himself, me, and another good friend.
I've been wanting to spread the ashes, but haven't found the right place / time.
What if I mixed a little bit with substrate and grew them into shrooms? I wouldn't share the shrooms with people who didn't know him, and not without telling anyone, would probably just be for me. The brother might not dig it, but the dead friend would absolutely think it's hilarious and righteous.
If it were some other friend of ours, he'd have been first in line to eat those shrooms. And he'd know that deep down, it's respectful.
I assume I'd have to adjust the pH, right? I think ashes are alkaline, so maybe add the same weight in lemon pulp to make neutral lemon tek / dead friend shrooms?
Please don't be mean, I'm serious about this and it feels right. I just need advice on the gardening tek of it.
Thank you. =-=- Edited subject to add "ashrooms", it seems to work.

Do you live in a place where you could grow wood lovers? Could potentially use ash in sawdust or woodchips, colonize, and spread it around a mulched garden .

Ah, I didn't think of that.
And good to hear someone else has done it. I already see a "what the fuck comment." lol.
It just doesn't sound odd to me. Hell, Catholics eat their god every week, and they literally believe it's really his flesh.
Did it affect the mycelium production? Did you have to adjust the PH of the jars? How much did you use?
thank you so much!

Excellent.
Also: Ashrooms.
Tell your loved ones. Not sure I'd put it in a will, but could unofficially be your wishes.

I saw a post about that on here. That's what gave me the idea.
That seems like a lot of work and money, plus too public for this.
Spreading ashes with some colonized substrate might work. Maybe I'll do that with a little of the ashes too. My dead friend loved psychedelics.

Thank you.
Spread it. It's good.
I still don't know if it would wreck the pH.
I also like the idea of burying a grow after first flush with some ashes out in the woods, too.

Im not gonna lie. This got my attention. I have my Dads ashes in my bureau. To make some fire bangers using that as an additive sounds beyond epic. I’ve always wanted to talk to him. Never got to say goodbye. What a cool idea.

Very cool.
I'm still worried about the pH being too off from ashes.
Here's an article that says cremains are bad for plants. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/info/cremation-ashes-and-plants.htm
No mention of shrooms. lol. Says alkaline and lots of salt. I think if you didn't use much, and maybe mixed with lemon water to neutralize the pH. You could check the pH with a meter (strips wouldn't work because the ash would change the color).
There are pH meters on Amazon.

Neutralizing it should work, or you can use it in place of lime in the casing?

Stop giving a fuck about the ph lol. What are you putting in a spoonful into one jar. How much ash do you have. you don't have to use a cup of it...

First of all, I'm sorry that you lost your friend but I fucking love this idea and if you asked me if I wanted to eat your buddies ashshrooms and trip with you I'd be honored.
I'd probably mix a tablespoon or two of your friend in with your substrate, seems like your best bet and I wouldn't worry about your ph level as already mentioned. Good luck and I really hope you're successful and it all works out.

These are friend's ashes cube spore prints.
He said he had cancer so his chick would get back with him. Then he had an aneurysm while cooking dinner a few months later and dropped dead. They donated a bunch of his organs to people and he totally never had cancer. Fucked up thing was he had everyone believing he had cancer, friends, mom, gf, etc... And was always talking about dying soon. Well

The mind is super powerful. That is funny but pretty fucked up lol. He must’ve been pretty stressed with the looming “fake cancer” situation and always talking about dying. Maybe eventually he started to believe and
