Agar and pcing

I'm pretty much a newbie to cultivation. Someone told me that I need a 23 quart pressure cooker for 20 jars/dishes of agar. Apparently a 23 quart pressure cooker will hold 26 8 oz jars double stacked. However, you only need 4 oz jars for agar. Couldn't I get a 16 quart or smaller pressure cooker? Can I triple stack the jars or is double best? What's the difference between pcing the agar in jars as opposed to Petri dishes?

the presto 23 quart or AA921 are great options because you can use them for other things as well. I've been considering getting a smaller PC just for agar, swabs, syringes etc. and using my larger PCs exclusively for grains.
Triple stacking is fine.
I started with no-pour agar as well. Got tired of using those 4oz jelly jars real fast. Check out pasty plates or aliens "holy grail" no-pour tek.
Edit: Also, its VERY difficult to get your hands on a decent 21 or 23 quart PC right now.

Second the holy grail plates! (see my signature)
Pasty plates are well known but I can easily see the holy grail plates becoming more popular as time goes on. I think Pasty plates are just more popular cause they've been around longer.
The HG plates take up less space, don't need modification, and are easier to see through the top. I don't know what benefit the pasty plates have over them tbh but I'm definitely biased here...

Nothing at all, if that's what you have there's no reason not to use them. But if you're buying new and don't need the jars for cakes or actual kitchen tasks then you may as well grab some HGs for the reasons Rhizomorph mentioned.
I just got started with agar over the weekend using pastyplates, since I had some of those containers on hand, but already I can tell that not being able to see clearly into them is going to be annoying. Once I'm confident that my agar and sterile technique is up to snuff and something actually germinates on my plates, I'll likely buy something easier to use.

If I wanted to, could I pc the agar in a mason jar then transfer to HG dishes? I'm just not quite sure about the whole putting plastic dishes in a pc idea.

The holy grail dishes are named as such because they can be pressure cooked, have no fear.

The holy grail plates & the pasty plates are both made of PP5 plastic. Any PP5 plastics can withstand very high heats and pressures more than an average pressure cooker creates.
Just look for a little recycling logo with a 5 in the middle and "PP" below it and you know it is PP5 and thus pressure cook-able.
Most other types of plastic will melt however.
Also you could pressure cook the mason jars with agar and then transfer to HG plates, but you will need to pressure cook the HG plates either way to sterilize them. Transfering to the plates without sterilizing them will ensure contamination occurs. As such, you might as well just pressure cook the HG plates from the get-go and skip the mason jars.
