Do you need to crush Syrian Rue seeds before boiling? 1

Curious for next time. Crushed them myself and extracted in a pressure cooker (instant@pot) for 30mins. The extraction went very well. I tested a second pull with 15mins cook and there is nothing really left, the water is very clear.
Filtering the crushed seeds through a coffee filter is a PITA though. Looking forward to this. 2.6g Syrian Rue, first time.

I never crushed them. It makes filtering an even bigger pain, and doesn't seem to increase the total yield of alkaloids to an ammount that maintains the extra effort.

Filter the seeds out with a fine colander /kitchen sieve.
Gravity filtering is then a good starting process: Let the jar stand for two days, to allow the particles to settle down. Then carefully decant the upper clearer liquid.
Cleaning up with an eggwhite: Take two eggwhites and pour them into the cold brew. Then slowly bring it to a boil, while stirring gently every now and then. Once hot, the eggwhite will harden /thicken, and collect and keep all the unwanted particles. Filter out the eggwhite and squeeze gently through a cotton cloth. The liquid will be super clear, excellent to proceed further.
Both methods combined might save many hours of annoying filtering.

Oh that egg white idea is great heheh. I will give that a go certainly.
Glad they don't need to be crushed.. I'm on my second coffee filter for 2.6g and about 200ml of water. Such a faff it's unbelievable. Going about an hour now. How do people enjoy hot coffee with these things? There must be a better alternative to coffee filters? Muslin cloth, a flannel.. many things I'm sure. Coffee filters are terrible at filtering.
Re cleaning up with eggwhites: Is this specifically for making tea? Or could it be used if procurring freebase or HCL harmalas? (wouldn't want egg in the final product)

The egg gets hard and is easy to filter out, first with a fine colander and then go on with a cotton cloth or so.
The liquid gets totaly clear. It will run through a coffeefilter very fast. Perfect to base and precipitate the freebase.

What’s the ratio, would it be like 2 egg whites per gallon?

How on earth did you come up with that idea?
Will give your Harmala Tek a try probably this week.

Yeah, pretty much this.

It's not my idea. This method is used in kitchens for centuries, it's the common way to clean up sauces.
