Habitat: Found these on a relatively untended lawn, right outside a residential complex.
Gills: Black gills
Stem: Just under a cm diameter, hollow, pictures illustrate, see link at bottom of post.
Cap: A bit roughed up from staying in my pocket as i randomly found these while taking a walk. Coni
Spore print color: Very important!
Bruising: Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Look up , Coprinopsis atramentaria .

Find these in my back yard after it rains. Pretty common, liberty caps tend to grow around sheep.

You are very likely correct
Oh well, fooled again. I knew they were too big and strangely shaped. Why is it that they all look so alike?

Honestly, they all look very different if you know what to look for and have found some in the wild. I love looking at fungus when i find it. They may be shaped similarly. But they are all very different, just like humans.

Have a look at this Shroomery page about liberty caps, I found studying the pictures was very helpful when I was new to picking.
I'm sure they'll find you when the time is right.
