question on my first casing

Hi guys,
So Ive got a question on if my first casing is going alright and if theres something else i should be doing.
The picture attached is where its currently at.
I screwed up on my first casing and basically just did a crumble of my cakes. I got 5 flushes form them which were great. Afterwards i figured out what i was supposed to do for an actual casing.
SO what i did was take the original crumble, and put a fresh verm/ flour mix on top of it, followed by some straight vermiculite to cover .
Now ive got fuzzy white mycellium coming out in random spots.
So my question is should i cover the mycellium in some more mix or just some more vermiculite..or let it alone and watch?
the case itself is sitting on top of my perlite layer to keep the tub moist. I aerate 3-4 times a day.
thanks ahead of time!

Ok, to answer your question, I would just leave it be. But....
You should've really mixed it with coir instead of the brf verm mix. Or just verm.
You don't want to mix it with something really nutritious (BRF) in open air. That is the whole point of preparing the brf mixture in jars, to keep it safe from contaminants in open air.
Fully colonized cakes won't get contaminated And coir will not get contaminated because it is really low nutrition, it serves mostly as a water reservoir. Same with verm. But the uncolonized brf added is likely to contaminate.
Also, verm isn't the best casing material because it can be difficult to determine its moisture content by sight. It looks the same dry or wet. Coir on the other hand looks much lighter when dry and is easy to tell its moisture level.
That said, it could totally still work out, and looks fine at the moment. Good luck

Thanks!
I was following a vid tutorial on it. I must have screwed up what he was saying going back and forth about packing the cake with a mix versus just straight verm. I at least sterilized the verm mix before i put it on top of the old cake. I made sure to sterilize everything else also before puttng it together. So hopefully it will hold out!
I honestly wasnt sure if anything would happen since my cake was pretty used up at that point i thought.
Coir ive never seen talked about. i will research it. Thanks for the tip!
THe joy of experimenting.

Maybe you have mistaken it for the dunk and roll? Where you dunk your cake and afterwards roll it in verm to create a moisture layer around it.
Sterilizing is not something that's done on non to low nutritious substrates. Although verm is not really consideret a substrate it self and is mostly used with coco coir.
Because that verm doesn't hold nutes, you do not need to sterilize it. Coir doesn't either.

SO im looking up all the coir casing stuff. And of course i lost the link tothe one i wanted to ask about.
ANyway, it looks like when the guy had the mycellium coming up like mine, he added more casing material on top of it to ensure a more even spread of the grow. Since he said it tends to come up along the sides more generally.
Since mine is all fluffy like and on the sides, should i think about covering it with another layer of moistened verm since i dont have coir right now?
Or just leave it as One of Us Recommended?
