3 Liters jars / too little oxygen for lion's mane?

So I did a grain transfer to some 1 liter and 3 liter jars, the 1 liter jar was fully colonized in two days while both my 3 liter jars only colonized four fifth's of the jar from the top down, the bottom part was not colonized so I shook the jars thinking that I initially did a bad job shaking them, but now exactly the same is happening, only colonizing four fifth's closest to the lid with the bottom part colonizing VERY SLOWLY.
Is this a lack of oxygen in the bottom of the jar or something?

Could very well be. What are you using in the lids for gas exchange?
Pics would help if possible.

Sure thing, I'll take some photos when I get back from walking my dog in a little bit, thank you I'm using two layers of micropore tape over four small holes I punch in my lids with scissors, been using this method for years with the one liter jars(they only get three holes punched in them) but only recently moved on to 3 liter jars. my Shiitake did not have this problem in the 3 liter jars with the same tek

the one on the left is recently shook, it looked like the middle one when I shook it and yet you can see it colonizing faster on top again, on the right is the same age one liter jar

maybe shake again or try setting it upside down on a rack and see if the heavier gas will find its way out 🤷♂️

Yeah I'm almost certain it's not getting enough gas exchange for the bigger jars. Telltale sign is the bottom having the issue, just as you thought.
You might have to increase the hole size.

Ok, thanks a lot for your input guys. I think what I'm going to do is grain transfer some of that nice fully colonized top bit so that there is more space in these two jars for some gas exchange and then next time I do a 3 liter I'll be sure to add more holes when doing lion's mane. Thanks again
