You be the judge! Is it a Panther or a Fly?
Which one?
You may choose only one

I wish I still had pics of the muscaria from last year and what I thought was pantherina earlier this year.

Did you consider A. regalis as an option?

I did not. This shroom is located in the PNW and from what I just read about a. regalis is its only found in Alaska around here. When all the fruits are mature they look red. Even with my color retardation I can tell it's red red. That one on the left look stunted or mutated. The one on the right is consistent with what grows in the hundreds all over this hill late this month through October.

Have you considered Amanita pantherinoides?

Honestly I assumed right away it was muscaria but this location and species are new to me. In this general area it seems like the panthers fruit late spring into summer and the muscaria fruit autumn through early winter. Based off only 2 growing seasons I've experienced so far. But yeah I'm no pro and I suck with colors so I could have them backwards for all I know.

First time I hear of Pantherinoides. Are all the US pantherina species actually Pantherinoides or just a significant portion of them? Very interesting, these genome times.
