thiram fungicide treated wheat
    #26942482 - 09/18/20 01:39 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

I posted about this in general discussion a month or so ago.
I still have 2 50# bags of the wheat coated in pink thiram, which is a fungicide

after some searching on here, I found some threads saying it likely inhibits germination of spores, but shouldn't effect a live culture.

google says "It's most common with squash and melon seeds, not so common with tomato seed, but in any case the fruits that result from the thiram treated seed are perfectly fine to eat. ..."

wanted to get some input on a thread specifically about this issue

Yea mate, the only problem with treated grain is its typically not used for consumption, at least not directly. Usually seed wheat, corn, soybeans ect are treated with a spray or a chemical dip to reduce unwanted things inhibiting growth of competition. I wouldn't use it because mushrooms have an uncanny ability to take stuff from the growth medium and concentrate it in the fruit body, so my opinion is you just go buy a bag of feed grain, not seed grain. Also take a pic of the bag it came in.

Seems like a good soak and drain should get most of it off.  Maybe add a little vinegar in with the soak.  Just my thoughts though I'm not familiar with the chemical...

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
