Growing Mushrooms in a Cave

Hey all! I'm trying to create a simple, dumb, hard-to-fail, DIY tek to grow button & oyster mushrooms inside a local cave. Let's say it's difficult to access horse manure & straw as a substrate...
How would you go about growing mushrooms in this weird environment?
Also, how would you go about capturing the spores to create another batch?
Trying to figure this puzzle out. Thanks!

a cave is not suitable for growing in damp low light conditions of mushrooms without contamination, mycelium is not without issues, mold may be absorbed.

You don't capture spores. You buy spawn. Then You take the spawn and put it on agar and make a master culture. You can keep growing for years from one bag of spawn if not indefinitely.
Fuel pellets $6 for 40 lbs and soybean hulls $5 for 50 lbs are the best substrate for oyster mushrooms. You should be able to make over thirty 5 lb bags with that and each bag should produce at least 1.5 lbs of oyster mushrooms 1st flush.

Simple, dumb, hard to fail DIY teks do not typically involve caves lol.. Do some more research on growing Oysters first cause you dont need horse manure or straw. If for some reason you wanted to move on to buttons you should know they are not a newb species. Regardless.. unless you are trying to grow in a cave for scientific purposes Im not seeing the purpose of this. Then Id ask what kind of cave is this even? Is it pure rock? Is there vegetation? Is there any light? How deep, how much air.. so many variables but my main question is why in the world do you want to grow mushrooms in a cave?

Why... on earth...

He is not really that off base. There was a button operation not far from me . They grew in old quarries. The difference was the gigantic caverns. Ceilings were like 30 ft. They used industrial equipment. I would have liked to have seen it, never did. Read several local articles on it. Don't know why they quit either.
Oysters seems less of a fit.

Nah I think the idea is cool, although maybe not oysters like you said.
I just wasn't sure about the need for a 'tek' for it.
Man, I can't get manure or straw... but a local random cave? Check!!

I certainly wasn't putting down the idea, especially if it works..it would definitely be an endeavor! I was more so appreciating the spontaneity of it!!
A cave operation was an eye catcher in the subject line lol!!
I've never seen or heard of this kind of grow, but seems incredibly labor intensive just to get a consistent airflow in something like that, let alone the materials, buttons especially! Although as typing this I'm imagining loading up an old coal miner cart with my oyster bags and a miners cap....I need to go spelunking!!

lololol love the responses to the question!
I appreciate everybody who's at least taking it somewhat seriously.
If oysters seem difficult in this environment — hypothetically, obv — then which strain would you grow & how?
Let's assume there's a natural source of airflow from like a natural chimney or a 2nd smaller entrance or whatever

Hypothetically...what would you say the temp ranges ,as is, in this "cave" you speak of?

Yes, sometimes people have a hard time straying from their preferred method, but the french have been growing mushrooms for a long time. Google "french mushrooms cave"

Yikes and see how air starved the oysters are in that pic?
I think the cool thing about a cave design would be that you could make the airflow and humidity completely passive, with no power, if you just had a hole in the top like that first pic.
The mushrooms warm up the place just enough so that the warmer air rises out and cool air comes in the front, drawing in moisture from a system you have in the front, some water you've diverted to flow over pebbles or something. It could work!

think most folks are saying best to start in your parents house first or move out after highschool then attempt a tub before a cave

^ He doesn't speak for me, I was making no assumptions on a living situation, I was merely imagining a "whistle while you work" coal miner/mushroom cultivar kind of life, with overalls and a spelunking hat. Then trying to relay that joy to others, while remaining optimistic that the OP at least found some help or enjoyment in their thread!
