Building a still air cabinet
    #26941037 - 09/17/20 04:59 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Hi everyone.

So I've got this cabinet which fits my SAB nicely.

I have pretty much 100% success rate with this SAB. But it's a bit cumbersome to work with so I'm thinking of upgrading the setup by replacing the SAB with a transparent plastic front, painting the walls, installing lights, sealing everything up and leaving a gap of approx 12-15 cm (5-6 inch) at the bottom. What do you think, will I have still enough air with such a setup? Should I cut out "SAB style" arm holes instead?

Seems like too big of gap.  I'd do holes in the bottom like this:

I found that pretty comfortable to work with.

Having a transparent front of course will be fantastic! But leaving a full gap at the bottom sounds too risky to me. It will allow for air currents entering your working area. So personally I'd still go for SAB-style  arm holes.

@Forrester:
You are keeping that sticker right there? Does it not obstruct your field of view? Even though I'm usually not OCD I'd go crazy about it, I guess :grin:

Haha, nah if I recall it was pretty easy to see right over it.  I only used that thing a year or so before I got a flow hood though anyway!

Thanks for all the replies :smile: :heart: I'll go for the arm holes then.

lol, good one. I read a tek long ago about having the dominant arm hole higher than the other, in order to make G2G transfers easier. Gotta say I'm pretty satisfied with this :rocket:
