Do you think you can permanently change your DNA or at least brain structure from frequent uses of psilocybin mushrooms?

Probably not, but watch the movie Altered States for another viewpoint, although I think that involved LSD.

No to DNA, but perhaps to engrams within the brain structure. It's of interest to me that the opponent process theory of acquired motivation asserts that the initial response to an emotional event will be followed by a secondary and opposite one.
And in the midst of a psilocybin induces trip sometimes we come across a panic attack and feel our hearts beat around our chest, our blood is tense and our eyes darting, we're in fight or flight and within a shrub or behind a tree there could lurk danger.
In essence, the fear we feel during a shroom trip, I believe helps us overcome more fear in our day to day life.
It is my belief that psilocybin numbs us to the feeling of fear over time with repeated exposure. That doesn't mean we don't feel fear afterwards, just that we are more accustomed to it and able to regulate ourselves even when stressed, pressured or panicked.
That is my 2c.
That the feeling of fear can be relieved with psilocybin use.

it helps with perspective, and general entertainment. the perspective can be healing. yes to engrams (subtle tiny brain changes as part of memory formation). NO to DNA

yes! - i do think humans can permanently change their DNA from frequent uses of psilocybin mushrooms. you can change your DNA with your thoughts alone, although the use of psilocybin will amplify your thoughts!
it is about removing self-imposed controls. i was recently able to increase the size of my breasts my thoughts!
DNA, being a digital storage medium, is capable of collecting, processing, and controlling information in a biochemical environment. however, its primary function is not to synthesize proteins.
DNA not only operates chemically, but is a source of biophoton emission, capable of carrying large amounts of data. the primary function of DNA is to perform bioacoustic and bioelectric signaling. the genes themselves can act as quantum objects, and this is what allows an organism to have super coherence and cohesion as a total whole. the chromosomes are holographic biocomputers.
photons travel along DNA in spirals, giving DNA the ability to bend light around itself. the phenomena of quantum non-locality/teleportation means that information is conveyed across the organism without transmitting energy and with no time lapse.
our DNA provides the capability,
our thoughts are capable of learning,
our learning inspires imagination,
imagination alters our perspective,
our perspective is limited only by our own self imposed controls,
remove self imposed controls and thoughts become capable of altering DNA.

You probably expect me to tell you it's not what they are thinking, and I will tell you that.
DNA demethyllation, and DNA Histone packing, and DNA segment exposure are not a matter of rewriting DNA, they are part and parcel with Gene Expression ONLY.
Memory is not digital data in DNA. It might be mathematically possible to create enough DNA to encode our experience of a week using the extreme miniature size of the DNA chemical memory bits if we took a slice of time once every 10 minutes and used up all the DNA in each cell. And even if we could do such a thing (leaving no more brain for life beyond a week) there is no mechanism to encode the digital data to DNA or decode it back to consciousness from DNA. It's just a terrible bunk idea left over from the late 1960's.
No idea why anyone would run with it except maybe because of Terrence McKenna who did no service at all to critical thinking in my opinion.
Sure, Kurzweil is great, but, his greatness to me is limited by the work he did with reading machines for the blind which have long since been surpassed.
thealienwhoategod, you are repeatedly dredging up shallow froth surrounding science rather than science.

I think the words “evolution” and “dna” are misused. But this is in scientific terminology. Can you permanently change yourself at least in a small way with a hella psychedelic experience? I think you can and should fwiw.

Thanks for your perspectives.
I don't feel or act entirely human anymore. I can sit for long periods in a trance or ecstasy, for instance. It doesn't take practice, I'm just like that now. I think it was accidental LSD in 2006 but it may have been the benders on mushrooms. I went 5 times in a week once, only getting minimal effects towards the end, but slamming them down, it was in my diet for sure, like the Terence McKenna suggestion, perhaps having it in the diet evolved us.

your DNA -- NO
it isn't about change per se, or structure per se, as regards the brain.
Its about whether, the odds are good that, you will get some lasting benefit. And that depends a lot on who you are, & where & how you do it.
And it is a matter of odds not certainty. Just read the posts in the psychedelic experience and trip reports forums on this site and/or elsewhere. You will find that bad trips do happen. And also that abuse of substance patterns occur among some users. Therefore no one can guarantee you great results, although some have had great results. And some have had variable results, so even a good result is no guarantee of future great results.

Altered States used some mysterious Toltec mushroom concoction plus a Lilly tank to concentrate the inwardness. It was good sci-fi.

Lilly was into both hours and hours in a flotation tank, ketamine, & LSD and ended up a bit delusional. He was not an example of successful evolution due to drug taking, and yes the movie was loosely based on his life.

The development of positive physical change in the brain was a fanciful notion promulgated by Terrence McKenna along with vocally produced sounds that he heard on a certain trip in an Amazon rainforest. I am grieved he died of brain cancer and wonder if his early notions of brain change were in fact some kind of precognitive intuition that he would indeed have brain changes in the future. Tragically, the change was fatally negative in the form of pathological cellular growth and mutant DNA.
Ram Dass had spoken many years prior to his stroke about pressures in his head. I have blood pressure problems and now it is unwise for me to take a psychedelic because I have checked my BP under the influence and it has sometimes gotten frighteningly high. I have had one medication changed and now another probably needs to be changed if I'm ever to take a psychedelic again with lessened risk. One does not want high BP because it weakens the arteries and having one rupture in one's brain can kill you outright or cause profound and permanent injury. This is not something youthful members of these forums discuss, but I've used psychedelics since 1971 and now I'm 67 years old. While I have entertained the idea of tripping while dying (assuming one has a slower death-process like Huxley), a cardiac or cerebral event is quick. At any rate I realize that wanting to take a trip while dying is different than dying on a trip! I don't like surprises but a surprise death is more likely from a vascular cause.
The changes one hopes to instill (or install) might best be thought of in terms of psychic or psychospiritual changes, the 'software' not the 'hardware.' One does NOT want physical changes to happen to the brain, neither shrinkage nor growth[s]!

Lilly became addicted to the Ketamine experience. And then he drowned, kayaking I think. These are sad legacies for a brilliant researcher.

He was once a featured guest on the epic talk show “Thinking Allowed”. The video is still out there somewhere, probs on YouTube.
Edit- found part of it, check it out ! To me what the are discussing sounds somewhat similar to the Buddhist Jhanas, Nimittas, and Siddhis, etc etc. Alternative States.

A rather odd 'interview' ... Jeff is rather admiring, but has nothing substantive to contribute, and John bathes in the admiration but also has nothing substantive to say.
Jack Schwarz on the other hand is all substance and no theory. But unfortunately could not teach what he could do.
Lilly provides no evidence of any insight at all, or of anything worth learning from himself. He only shows evidence of a state of mind that likes to classify other supposed states of mind that: 'can't be put into words'. But I don't doubt he had a good time doing all those pharmaceutical grade drugs back in the day.
Jack Schwarz however did not depend on or use drugs, to do what he demonstrates.
