Looks like an Omelette! Anyone like to help me ID?
    #26940425 - 09/17/20 09:55 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Hello Shroomers!

Any resident experts willing to help me ID one of my local specimens?  Found on a recent walk in the woods following many days of dry weather.  I picked it up because it looks like the bottom of a fried egg or an omelette lol and the gills are kinda pretty.

Size - Approx 10cm in diameter on a 15-20xm stalk

Habitat - Growing from the base of a decaying tree trunk surrounded by brush in shaded decideous forest

Location - South East Inland UK (Essex)

Cap = Shape is Flat with a central bump rising 0.5 cm. Bump is same colour as rest of cap.
Texture is striated radially from center like lots of little veins emanating from the center bump.
Colour is variations of light brown  with  white flesh.
Slight mucusy feel when picked that dried put soon after.  Weather has been very dry for some days so this was surprising
It honestly looks just like a slightly browned omelette fresh out of the pan in texture and colour!
I found a young one which was more conical with a nipple on top.

Gills - White with some non uniform yellow coloring, moderately spaced and maybe 1-2cm in height.

Gils are attached to stem where they extend that far but they alternate between short fins and long fins, the short ones do not extend to the stem. Gills are soft and dry with no secretions visible. Kind of nice to run fingers across.

Bruising - No obvious bruising coloration.

Stem - 15 - 20cm tall, 2-3cm thick at the base tapering to half that at cap. No skirt or ring to the stem.  Stem is kind of fibrous in consistency, rather than spongy like the cap. It feels like a stem of lemongrass when squeezing.

Smell - No strong smell. Just a light mushrom odour.

Was the base of the stem bulbous?

Hi!  Thanks for coming :-)

There is a bulge at the base but I would have not thought of the word bulbous without you asking.

Is this bulbous?

Wow, you guys are really good at this :-)

It does look a lot like Hymenopellis. Thanks so much!

What does the 'sp.' signify please?

Sp. is short for species

That's not very bulbous, no. I was thinking of something more along the lines of an amanita -

Glad you got an ID
