What happens during pinset development in a fully colonized casing?

This tub was spawned at a ratio of 1:5 16 days ago. It was cased 8 days ago with 50/50+ casing and put into fruiting conditions, I tried patching it with fresh casing as the mycelium ate through the casing but I stopped after a few days. These are the first pins, they appeared overnight. My question is: what does a good pinset development proceed? Is it normal to see a few pins at first and then many more come in over the next few days? Also these pins seem to be erupting through the mycelium coming from the substrate/casing interface. Is this normal that even in fully colonized casings the knotting and pinning still proceeds from the casing interface?

Thank you for your time and attention.

Thats about the closest I’ve ever seen to overlay with cubes. It will likely be fine, don’t mess with it too much. That’s definitely some oddball genetics to do that to 50/50+. Did you use lime to buffer?

Yes, it was buffered with hydrated lime and limestone to a pH of about 8. They just ate the whole casing. I would wake up every morning and see the casing more and more consumed.

It happens sometimes. I wouldn’t worry too much yet, just keep conditions up is all you can do. Is it a clone or ms?

This was 50/50+ IIRC

This was a mazatapec variety that was somewhat isolated on agar but not perfectly so I guess closer to a MS culture.

I’d keep on looking then. Never pin your hopes on one spore sample, make lots and keep the best. Clone and test. I’ve tossed 100’s of clones and kept like 3 long term.

This is my first grow so hoping to get some yield and good fruits that I can work with further from this. I heard from one poster that mazatapec throws out particularly fluffy mycelium (A.K.A) but now that I am starting to see pins I am just wondering if it is normal for 1 or two to come up before the others develop. I hope these tubs are not too low yield!

With multispore the range of possibilities can be anything in the species. If you started with spores it’s always a crapshoot to some extent.

Perhaps due to the homogeneity of the strains in the tubs they are pinning unevenly i.e. some strains will pin first then the others pin later? Has this been your experience? I am hoping these are just early pins and that the rest come later on. And will the knotting be spread out in the casing layer beneath the top layer of mycelium?
