Yellowish Woodlovers Past Their Prime
    #26935695 - 09/14/20 06:07 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hello everyone, does anyone know what genus and or species of fungus is shown below? I will not be consuming them for any reason. This request is made in the interest of science.

Habitat: On mossy, decaying wood - mostly conifers, though some beech logs are near as well. Next to a running creek. North East United States. See pictures below for habitat

Gills: Attached, yellow when young, light brown to orange with age

Stem: 1 to 2.3 inches long, 1/8 to 1/4 inch in diameter, light in color, hollow, slightly rough and rubbery in texture, becoming thick with age

Cap: 1/4 inch to 2 inches in diameter, light brownish yellow sometimes with a darker center

Spore print color: rusty brown - see pics of caps below where spores have been deposited

Bruising: grey to red, almost black in places, light blue or green seen but not captured in photos (call me crazy)

Other information: Pumpkin like smell when heated (for preservation)

Caps/Group in situ

Gills and upside down stems

And right side up

Spores on cap

A little bruising

Thank you, Doc9151. Do the following spore prints match that id as well?
