Same here, they’re high on my list for next time I dose.

Man I cannot get over how dense your tub is.

Another thing I noticed is no matter how long I leave them the caps don’t curl up like cubes. All that happens is the stems will start busting open.

Always super tiny caps compared to the stipe.

Then there’s these weirdos that were pins when the sub they were on broke off like 1/3” thick. I was surprised they didn’t just abort altogether.

Do you know if those were indoor or outdoor? I’ve never had fruits anything like that, like are almost always really long with small caps.

The NSS shown in the pictures were grown indoors. A key feature of NSS is the rhizomorphic mycelium growth. Potency of NSS has been said to be more than Golden Teacher.

I think that one might be a keeper. It was ms right? How far was it transferred before hitting grain?

It’s a weird pheno for sure with the PE type caps.

My pc burner is out of commission so I threw some half pints into the instant pot with my chicken last night lol. Just knocked one up with my clone so I can finally run a hwfp sub real quick. I was thinking about trying to add wood to agar somehow and testing the myc that way.

Its MS and my protocol is usually T3 minimum for everything unless it visually needs more.

I'm on the fence doing another run. I do have a soft spot for these but I PC'd 40 qts today I have pegged for RW g2g. If I put too much on my plate this hobby isn't fun anymore.

My natalensis half pints are just about colonized, gonna give them a few days to consolidate but they’re already beginning to form the dreaded overlay. Also had a couple natalensis plates go bad so i cut around the mold and just put them in tiny containers surrounded by field capacity horse manure (unpasteurized) but the mycelium is tearing through it as i have seen in the past with unpasteurized Hpoo so it should be fine.

Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong place but since we have been talking about NatalSS here as well I thought I could ask some advice on my fruiting conditions.

I used a NatalSS MSS to inoculate rye grain and spawned to coir in a shoe box upon complete colonisation of the rye. After spawning to bulk, there were about 5 rye kernels stuck to the walls of the jar which I put in a little plastic container with some coir just to observe it on small scale so I wouldn't waste the colonised rye. Fast forward about 3 weeks, both the shoebox as well as the little plastic cup were fully colonised and I gave the little cup to a friend. He put the cup on his bathroom window sill with the lid loosely on top, whereas my shoebox has been in the best spot I can find for it at my place.

ANYWAY to cut to the chase, my fruits are tiny and look nothing like the NSS fruits I've seen on this thread:

These were some of my best looking fruits but standing about 5-6 cm tall only:

The cup I gave my friend had fruits looking like some on this thread (obviously left a little too long before harvest):

So, the fruit has completely different morphology despite coming from the exact same grain spawn - which leads me to believe it must be due to environmental conditions. I have paid good attention to my surface conditions throughout and made sure to supply adequate FAE.

tl;dr: Same grain spawn producing different fruits in two households, is there any advice what I could change in order to help the fruits in my shoe box mature to look something more like the healthier mushroom in the little cup?

Those both look like pretty normal natal to me.

I’d guess your sub was a little on the wet side which caused them to be small with the different caps.

Look how dry his coir is.

Well gang I ordered Psilocybe Natalensis spores from that South African vendor.
Now I’ll be able to compare them to what I have (I’m assuming Ps. Natalensis) and see if it the same or different...

Maybe some one else should order the Ps. cubensis var Natal Super Strength and we can compare!

Ok that's interesting! I would have thought that a wetter substrate would allow for more water for the mushrooms to get nice and big.

It kinda seems like they might have different caps. It could just be different phenos but I’ve had wild myc every time and get a lot of smaller caps, plus I’ve never had them open all the way up like those. The widest I’ve had is just bell shaped usually when I did get bigger ones.
