Is this contamination
    #26938160 - 09/15/20 10:48 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hello theses cakes have been going for about 26 days and im just wondering if they are contaminated or stressed. I cant find any pictures that look like them. Thanks! Also one of them looks like there is a black spot but its just the glass reflecting. im more worried about the orange/yellow spots.

I don't see any. I wonder what the experienced people would say? I have less than 10 years.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve only been doing this for about a month and I really don’t want these to be contaminated and have to start all over again!

I say bacterial from texture and the yellow fluid build up. Probably metabolites.:death:

Probably from high moisture content

So the tub is blue oyster and the cake is fresh out of a jar and is golden teacher. What do you think about both of these contamination wise and are they usable? Thanks!

I still don't see any contamination. I can see how some may have seen those jars as questionable due to the yellowish part of the picture. Like someone else has mentioned, if they had a bad smell, they are definitely contaminated. If there is no actual contamination, they are ready to be soaked overnight and placed in your fruiting chamber, separate from you other bin. After an overnight soaking you should roll them in vermiculite, before placing them into the fruiting chamber. Read other postings voy ideal temps, humidity and air exchange. If the cakes are contaminated, you will likely see contam growth after a few days. If they are not contaminated, you should be picking your fruits in a week or less. Please keep us posted on the process. I can't comment on your tubs because I haven't done that yet.

Looks like melted ice cream. That usually means bacteria.
