Azzies in Oly! I am stunned how this little wild patch thrives every year.

Kinda cool.  I have a few other things out for testing.  I know it doesn’t look legit.  But I had to crop some things out and it is one of the first official report’s this lab has sent out.  They had just received their standards last week and I jumped in on a free test.  I have another lab that is taking a little longer.  I’m a little more excited to see those results.  I already knew my azzies were potent as shit.

These were an Oregon coast first flush 2020, dehydrated within the hour of picking.

Edit:

Cropped a little too much.

Damn.

So Madmumcher and I have been eyeballing these things.  Been calling them elk pans.  Just got the results back from the lab.  These are not active.  FYI.  I have one more of them and another lab.  Gonna try one more time.

That’s interesting. Black print?

What’s the macroscopic diff between these and cinctulus? Also if you have the time to PM me the deets on where you sent for testing, and the process is really appreciate that info.

Ok had to quote myself.  Lol.  Macroscopically very similar.  The habitat is woodland forest, and dune grass habitats so far.  I think they follow the elk.  That’s why we been calling them elk pans.  They are very similar to “cinctulus”, but the stems are longer more cartilagenous with a slightly dark red coloring.  Black spore print.  And I’d say they do not have mottled gills.  I’m probably missing a few traits.  They are similar to cincts but a little more hardy.

Any way I’ll talk about this openly because we are not doing anything illegal or wrong.  This is for science.  The two labs are very new at testing right now.  One of them gave me a simple lab report.  The other sent a lengthy text.  Lots of words.  I’ll do my best to get that posted.  Basically says my elk pans are not active.

I’m gonna see how the next few tests go and double check the accuracy of the elk pans with the other lab.  I will either post the information as to who and where you can submit your specimens for testing or not.  Once they figure out how to run the machines properly start charging, and actually have a report they can submit then this will become much more fun.  Right now my test’s are free.  At first it was 100$, but actually was free, then 50$, but actually free now who knows.  I’ll see if I can put actual contact info online.

I wasn’t worried about legal issues More than gunking up the thread with something that some may not care for, but I’m sure anyone here might have some interest. Yea, if you are able to and there’s no issues I’d definitely want that information, thank you.

On another note-
I mention this every few years, but if you’re hunting urban environments be very aware of your surroundings. Broken glass, used condoms, and worse I’ve literally found uncapped syringes near patches of cyans and allenii this year. In the past I’ve found open needles literally woven into a cluster of cyanescens.

This was feet from a patch in Seattle under branches I was looking for actives. There were a couple more piles in the vicinity.

Careful y’all

Buy a desiccant like dri-z-air or damp rid. Place a layer in the bottom of a container and place your mostly dry fruits above on another layer that will keep them from touching. This stuff turns to liquid as it absorbs moisture. A tight lid is a good idea. They should come out crunchy in a day or two

Great advice. Kerr makes a humidity control pac for Mason jars

Yep it’s true. I think Azure spores do blow over from the coast and Olympia might have some micro habitats that support some limited establishment. There are some very strong SW winds that blow from Astoria towards Oly when Azures are releasing billions of spores. Or it’s possible someone intentionally sprayed spores at one point. The Azures I find here are all buried in tall grass near lakes and ponds, similar to that of coastal habitats.

I would love to hear from Stamets and Rockefeller about this.

I personally know several folks who brought azures from the coast to cultivate in and around Olympia, 15-20 years ago...  but anything is possible!  Thrilled to find them there regardless!

Some coastal cyans, a beautiful day on the Oregon coast...  Low 50’s, sunny and no wind.

Damn, that makes me jealous. All I get in return for doing that is picked pins and ruined substrate :P

A few days ago I checked a patch in the middle of the night during a heavy storm, noticed maybe only 3 fruits that would be ready in the morning, few teens, and dozens of pins. Came back at 10am, only sign of life was uprooted mycelium strewn about

yeah trust me, this isnt a notmal occurence ive seen my share of waiting to let em grow and coming back to uprooted ground. I just like to let them grow up a bit so that they get bigger and because its good to leave some for others if you already are having a good season. But this certainly made my day more than the cyans

My mouth is watering.......

If you do go back, would you consider doing a video? Its hard to imagine the scope of the patch just from pics, but I'm guessing it's ridiculous

Absolutely beautiful find, thanks for motivating my lazy ass!

Lc, way to go.
The Aziz in Olympia are awesome. I’m probably more on the fence of the spores riding in on  another local.

Yeah, I wrote it in pencil so it would survive rain  I spread spores there a couple of years ago and was surprised that someone actually found it.  But totally thankful that 1) you used scissors, 2) lef the pins, 3) covered stuff up.  So tip of that hat to you.  Glad you found my note, and that's how finding mushrooms should be done   I look forward to sharing the space with you
