Mr. Benson said: you guys are killing me with all the finds in King/Pierce county. I've been hunting hard for two months, coming up mostly empty handed. Probably putting in 10 hours a week hunting. So far none of my old spots have produced and the one new patch I have found has yielded maybe 1-1.5 grams dry.
hate to hear that luckily the weather still going strong at least in king so kerp looking, plenty to go around. I took 2 weeks off work to hunt and didnt find much but in the last week after returning to work i have found decent clusters of fully matures hiding in plain sight, in the vicinity of over picked patches! Sending mush luck your way

Made this patch earlier this year. Wasn't expecting it to fruit as I've just been piling on colonizable yard debris (sticks/sawdust/cardboard/blackberry shoots) to build it up. Most recently I put a bunch of bamboo culms on it to help insulate during winter and to see if they would colonize. Dug around a little to see if anything was happennin' and found this cespitose af cluster. Was way pumped. The myc appears to have jumped to some of the culms. Anyone ever found any actives in a bamboo grove??

I had a big tote of wood chips (alder) that I got to colonize last season from stem butts, so that was the seed for this patch and a couple of others. I just split up the colonized chips and buried them in different areas. The other patches I have going have a mix of alder/soil/cardboard/leaves, and have done well. This (pictured) has become the experimental patch and I've just been loading it down/widening it's area. Am pumped to see what it does next year!

One of my patches in my old yard was along a fence that had bamboo on the other side of it. Shoots would come up on the colonized side, and the myc really seemed to like the boo leaves. I’m planning on putting bamboo in at our new place and of course spawning it.

PDX is absolutely blowing up this year! I likterally almost stepped on these, right in the open in a very well travelled park. I was quite surprised, and was actually leaving to check another known spot when they came up on me!

Trying some shit. Cut up some bamboo culms to put in a small container. Put a couple of azzies in it. Gonna let the mushroom in the middle mature, drop it's spores and die here, and see if the small shroom laying flat in a culm just wastes away or "respawns".
Azzy butts on Norfolk Island Pine heartwood shavings from a recent wood carving project.
And your classic alder chips. Gonna let these mushrooms mature, drop spores and die here as well.
And finally this the first container from this season that I started a few weeks ago on alder chips. Showing signs of mycelial growth.

Chances are these mushrooms are not going to mature with the mycelial network all broken, and I don't think the spores would be of any help there. You're better off just leaving the stem butts in the substrate, no need to mess with rotten mushrooms.

My dood, like I said "trying some shit". I hear your concerns, but yeah just experimenting. Whether they mature or not, I just want to watch what happens! I'm not trying/claiming any wizardry. Just trying to be stupid simple and copy nature. Mushroom grow. Mushroom die. Mushroom grow again. Through many different mechanisms on many different substances. They're good at keeping going. Doubt a rotten mush or 2 would hurt anything, and I mean when do spores not help?? I understand it won't yield the germination rate of putting spores to agar but spores are how it works (and I don't care to learn how to agar). I'm just letting them do their thing and we're going to see what happens! It's like a weird nature scenario if a patch were to be broken apart by say a bird or an animal and moved to another spot.

All good, if all you want is watch what happens go ahead, I was just trying to say that if you were serious about colonizing that substrate there are better ways than letting a mushroom rot on top of it.
