First P cyan pin showing deep within an alder log. Couldn’t see it without the light and awkward camera angle. This spot always pops off early for me! Olympia, WA.

Did you happen to get any pictures of the stipe? I'm having the worst time trying to identify the species when I'm out.

Look for the blue ring around the stipe where the cap seperated, hence the name blue ringers.

Na .. these are baeos. They had the classic olive cap, no pronounced blue ring, and they blued up nicely after they dried a bit. I've picked them in the same spot before and found them around here millions of times; they grow all over Baeo City here. Nothing in my stuntzii patch yet and haven't seen any libs pop up either. From what I can recall from my years of picking around this area, the baeos will often pop up first earlier in the season than the others. We need some more rain and cold nights to get the profusion really hapnin.

Nice find NOTmushroom2THINK! I think it should be worth mentioning to others though that there are a couple of deadly Conocybe (I think?) that look very similar. Exercise caution and be sure of your ID's before eating these.

Hell yeah! If you don't mind me asking was this in a park or in a manicured garden bed like outside a storefront?

This is a wooded park area, no wood chips or human influence, just decayed alder log near a stream with a microclimate that fruits early every year.
A couple days later now we have 2 pins showing.

Vancouver Island, BC
Gymnopilus Luteofolius

Small gravel road patch

Pholiotina Cyanopus

Thank you so MUSH Dekanem, and for your concerns. I'm being extra cautious with this species as this is the first season I have found it, anything without a white stem and blue bruising gets chucked, but I'm slowly getting familiar with I'm looking for taxanomicly.

Well, I haven't had any luck finding any so far. But, I think I will check some new spots that I hadn't checked in previous years...that might explain my endless streak of bad luck trying to find cyans lol. I keep wanting to find them way out in the woods amongst alder and maple with blackberry bushes but that is asking for a gold bar as a piece of candy
So would anyone else in the upper PNW say that the season is underway now? I started seeing mushies almost a month ago but wasn't looking for cyans. I thought it had to be cold and rainy. We just had a day in the 80s that probably fried any fruits...like, when should I go? A day after it rains? I couldn't get time in edgewise to go hunting last year...seemed like it was 90 degrees and then immediately 30 degrees.

There is no set time after rain or amount of days just general fruiting seasons and its the very beginning of that season only way to find some is to put in the leg work and cyans in the woods isnt that impossible last time i tried to find chantrelles i found a single mushy chantrelle and a patch of cyans on decaying maple and young alder under blackberries with nice fruits but that was just pure luck id start by checking your local parks.

I keep getting dreams about finding them. I did check a couple parks last year but I feel like I am too far inland. Feel like cyans like the extra moisture from the Pacific Ocean
The beds I checked didn't seem to be mulched much, it seemed like it was just straight up alder bark. I hear the mulched beds are for better luck.
It is weird though because one of the best picture for a giant cluster of cyanescens was taken in the town I usually check in.
