This patch is now 2 years old. I started from wild mycelium, and cloned it until it was 12' long and 3' wide. Watering religiously, letting weeds grow thru in summer, covering with cardboard and a tarp in fall until time to fruit. The wet cardboard helps bring the mycelium up to the surface.
Every year I till in new soaked alder chips, I do no pasteurization. It is imperative you keep the chips moist when it is time to fruit, else you will get aborts galore. Even a few hours of raw harsh wind will ruin a crop.
Treat your patch right and it will reward you greatly. My work is a result of giving them literally perfect growing conditions, which is why I am having such success. Also, the beauty of it is since I live in their native habitat, I just need to provide enhancements to it, such as more food and water. Besides that I leave it alone most of the year.
If anyone is interesting I can make a post about it in detail.

A spot of mine from last year is finally starting to show some life:

Heres a pic of it from exactly 1 year ago today:

Need more solid steady rain here in the south sound!

My spot isn't fruiting as much as it did last year. Hoping the cold this weekend doesn't stunt growth. It was later October / early November that the fruits really multiplied.
Any reason I should be concerned about the inevitable frost / freeze coming this weekend? There will likely be a couple sub freezing low temps. Definitely early this year. With that said, the ground should still be warm so I'm hoping everything is fine so long as the ground itself isn't frozen solid (which it shouldn't be.)

Never found clusters like this spot before. Some of the new ones are coming up oddly deformed for cyans, pix below. Are they like aborting? lots of what i think is mycelium gets left on the edges, its like they came up too quick or something (doesn't seem like mold?). EDIT: forgot these pics lol...

Did a sweep of my usual spots though, pretty good turnout! Slug was trying to munch a couple, he was on his way over, probably took him so long but I had to swipe the cyans
    Some grassy ones:

Those look delicious. I wouldn't think twice about the lighter ones, my guess is they are just fast growers and more light. I found massive patch of only light and large specimens recently. I came back with a decent haul from my sidewalk trail patch today. Your clusters and so tight and lovely. Do you think the older ones below are safe to eat?

Edited for typo + to add more pics(the reason why I edit most of my posts)

^Sorry edited my post, the pics of the deformed ones are now added. I'm inspecting the sample I took and it looks like its just still expanding from breaking the veil, they seem almost stuck in this stage and keep putting on weight though. Maybe lack of rain compared to what they were used to last week? Some of the stems are incredibly thick for young cyans
And I'd say those older ones are fine, I pick em unless they're like completely falling apart, just make sure to dry them quickly and fully

Thank you for your insight. After checking out your deformed mushies I have no info as to why they are growing that way. Maybe they will look normal in a few days, keep me posted. Edited because said pics not mushies.

Sweet mother of a mandolin maker, these bastards were dense!
Last stop of the day, on a whim. Was literally thinking to myself, "ho hum, kind of a bust of a day but whatever. I'll be back"...then BOOM. I nearly walked right by it. The way this shit works sometimes feels pretty strange.
Wish I could have photographed more of it. This was somewhat in the open. Not a great place to dally.
Anyway, I wish you all the best luck this season. It's already looking nice and it's still pretty early.

mcasa said: Thanks. I really was unlucky last year, I couldn't find any. This year I started looking in fields, parks, trails, beaches, schools, colleges and basically any parking lot I found myself in. I told those around me what I was doing and made an effort to believe I would find them between 40-60 degrees after the first week of rain. After 2 years since my last and first find went by, I am now stumbling upon hundreds close to my town. When people say fresher alder, new construction , deciduous envent horizon landscapes, i found enough to feed me for 2+ years. Intention and efforts led me to manifestation of my mush finds. I needed to identify hundreds of mushrooms to safely pick.
Translate “deciduous event horizon landscapes” please?
And “fresher alder” ? Are you saying newer woodchips? There were tons of new chips put down by the city, was wondering if it takes a few years for them to grow cyans, and once they do will they continue to come back forever or is it just a few seasons.
New Construction? Are you talking residential homes, or commercial?
Lastly, how much research time would you put in on a spot that seems like it has the right conditions, because just looking as I go on a 2-4 mile walk through neighborhoods/ schools/ parks /etc is just not working. I want to focus more on areas that seem like prime habitats, like topography, watersheds, and then maybe look for signs of construction in recent years.
