PNWFlushScout said: A few days ago I found a patch of cyans and noticed some of them had fused gills. Any idea what could cause this? Fungal infection maybe, or possibly an odd phenotype? About 10% of the patch had these fused gills. Only the snallest specimens had 100% fused gills from stem to cap edge. Some larger specimens showed only a partial fusing of the gills near the cap margin. The gill area appeared healthy, no sign of foreign material or growth. The result was a fleshy cap that was a bit heavier/thicker than normal
Any ideas on cause?

I think this is a puppet account. Who knows how to change the title of the thread in their very first post?
I know this person and it's not a puppet account. You need to chill out. Those are definitely cyanescens. Jesus H christ.

Ha! Dudes, all cool. Forums be like this 😊 Hunter hunter, I rinse them when I'm picking with a buddy who gets dirt in the bag. I don't know what is happening with these cyans, but thought you all might be interested in seeing. I can't be the only one to have come across this right?

I’d say pretty rare man. I’d like a pic of the cap. I’m gonna stop till I have a patch to post. Welcome to the shroomery.

I have no foot in this race but I concur that these look like Psilocybe Cyanescens, with the white stems(dirty) bruising blue, gills bruising blue, margin on the cap bruising blue, zooming in on the photos on the edge of the caps it appears they are caramel in colour, and the specimen looking the closest to a normal Cyanescens is the big one in the middle to the right. I would love to see photos of these specimens in the habitat you found them, or when you next go to that patch to pick.

Yeah those fused gills are bizarre I have never once come across that in years of hunting. I really wonder if its genetic or some kind of infection/bacteria. Maybe seperate those specimens from your normal cyans in case its some kind of bacteria that might make you sick. Either way its a pretty patch!

Old cyans will do that, it's kind of a fungal melting if you will. Analogous to ink caps in a way. Once you see cyans or even any woodlovers, they are trivial to identify and it becomes second nature.

I hope I find some this year, I am really just trying to get a couple spore prints to save for later use. I didn't find any last year, but the year before that I did, I should have taken more prints but I did pizza box tech instead and it failed.

Citizens of Baeo City are ecstatic as the home team racks up another win. The Blue Bombers are leaving the competition in the dust and are on track to take the cup this season.

Finally on the board with some cyan patches. a week ago I didn't have any spots and now I know about 4 patches less than a mile from home. I was beginning to doubt that I would find any this far from the coast. Plenty of Fly Agaric to be seen too.
