Identifying Amanita species
    #26936761 - 09/15/20 10:25 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

No luck finding Amanita Muscaria in several hikes. But I think I found some from the genus "amanita". Which might have some muscimol content. If anyone could attempt to identify I would be happy. Thank you!

Picture 2-3-4 is of same mushroom. Found in other location than the other. It seems a bit brighter than the others.

Picture 5-6 are of the same mushrooms. And picture 1-7-8 are of the same mushrooms.
Mushrooms in picture 1-5-6-7-8 where found in very close proximity. I think they are the same species.

No idea why the images will not show up. (link to pictures above)

Amanita taxonomy has gotten pretty convoluted over the last few years.
If I had to guess though I’d say Amanita crenulata. Many Amanita contain muscarine, but they also contain many things you would not want to consume like amatoxins. I’d say it’s not worthwhile to pursue anything other than A. muscaria and A. pantherina but even then be careful.

I might be wrong but I don't think Amanita crenulata grows in Europe. Also Amanita crenulata seems a bit more yellow than what I got. Might be wrong though..
Thanks for the reply

Ah. Yeah. Maybe not. What’s your general locale?

fly agarics are pretty easy to find try Birch trees. look for grassy open areas but always near a tree or woodland edges. i havent found many if any in the deep thicket of woods or on dead leaf matter and bramble style shady environment.

Northern Europe.

Amanita rubescens might be it. Or Amanita pantherina.

Pennybuns: that sounds like good advice. I found these amanitas in birch. And also spotted some more of similar looking in more dense pine forest yesterday. But they seem to want more sunlight...

I've got some now. I cut away a part with some tiny white maggots in it. Is it dangerous to consume the mushrooms if there is maggots or maggot eggs in them? I'm thinking if they can become hosts in my body somewhere
