I don't know how it became a debate either. Just so you know it will still vent but you will no longer get the rocking motion. At least I don't with 5 washers. It will actually be easier to regulate because there is no rocking it is just a steady slow release of steam.

Thus I have 2 choices: 1. As you said -- sit next to it and switch between 4 and 3 every 5-10min so it does not steam. 2. Know my water loss and add water accordingly, put on #4, once it starts whistle put timer and wait without a need to check every "15 min".
Trust me I have been doing this too long. once you adjust it to 15 psi no more adjustments should be needed. You should check your PC every little while to just make sure everything is ok. But you should be checking your PC every little while anyway whether you have extra weight or not. Yes, you will use less heat but not a hole lot less heat.

It's because you have a controller!!! This is the post I made a remark on:
Quote:
SHROOMSISAY01 said: When your PC starts running dry the rocker will slow down. But I only use maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water in 4 hours. If you put weight on your rocker with washers you will not use as much water. I bought 5 large washers from lowes that fit perfectly.
I just said that it might mislead some people it they put the extra weight on a PC without controller. Then they will really be sitting next to it and constantly adjusting.

My burner went out on my controller/PID so I had to wait until I could get another burner. I use my PC with the extra weight on my regular stove for over a week. It was easier to adjust because you don't have the rocking motion as much if at all so you get A steady release from the rocker port. I made one or two adjustments to keep it at 15 psi and I run for at least 3 hours each time.

OK, I will attach some coins next time and see what happens.

Yes just try it. You will see that what I am saying is true. I think I paid $0.15 each and I use 5 washers. Make sure you tape the coins on there really well.

What is the approximate weight? So I could match it.

I don't know the weight and I just 3d printed another plastic top for the rocker and epoxied it in. But it does not matter just get 5 of the cheapest washers you can get that fit inside the plastic piece of your rocker. Then you can add or subtract as you see fit. Like I said I use 5 and I think you will only want to go down in weight if you don't like using 5.

They are about 16 gauge in thickness. If you know anything about metal thickness. I would assume all the fender washers are about the same thickness.

Man I didn't mean to cause an argument.
I can solve this just go to an autoclave, they don't release any steam if temp is correct.😁 Basically this is what Shrooms is doing, modified hybrid autoclave/weighted cooker.

Yea I got one of those thingies. It is cheap if you already have a PC to start with. Autoclaves are expensive but nice if you can afford one that is big enough to work with.

I like this idea. What temperature do you track it at though. I like its set and forget.

I set mine at 255F because 15 psi should be around 250F. So I give it a 5-degree buffer. It was actually easy to make but you have to have a 220/240 volt line to hook it up to. I used my dryer line to run it off of. but I can't dry cloths and run my PC at the same time. Because it is only a 30 amp line.

My AA 941 is considered an autoclave. Meaning there is no rocker/ steam release. It has 2 pressure relief valves they release around 20 psi. So any AA can be used with the same valve .Some companies won't sell you one for a smaller AA, just tell them it is for a 941 . i replaced a valve last year, I believe Out Grow is where I got it ( yep ,just looked $16.95) So you can keep your kidney.😆

So hypothetically, if the pressure relief valve got stuck. It could maintain 250F but get above rated pressure. Wouldn't it still blow eventually.
Just trying to get my head around it.

The pressure cooker will go above 250F if it is not hooked up to a PID controller and the vent port and the overpressure plug get blocked. Water will not go over 212F without pressure. This also depends on where you are as far as sea level. In other words, if your pressure goes up your heat goes up. Yes, it will blow eventually.
All pressure cookers should have a Rubber Overpressure Plug. The overpressure plug should pop out if it gets too much pressure. If the plug is blocked however you potentially have a bomb on your hands. The easiest way to stop the plug from getting blocked is to buy another rack that your bags or jars sit on and use that with a small weight on top of your bags. The only thing that can block the plug would be the bag so if you keep it from being able to block the plug you will be fine...
These are for a presto 23 quart if you have a different one you will have to look them up for your model.
