Advice on when to harvest a cake's first flush

So I've got a Mazatapec cake going and it's looking pretty close to harvest time, should I let some of the mushrooms keep growing or harvest within the next day or two? First time doing a cake like this and I'm unsure when to pick them (I don't want to pull them too early). I am aware they need more FAE (the fuzzy feet is my inexperience showing). I've been fanning them every hour since I noticed but obviously the damage is done. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Harvest when the veils begin to break which really should be soon

You can also let the caps flatten out for taking easier spore prints. But yeah it is commonly agreed on that around the time the veil starts to break or shortly thereafter is when the mushroom has the most potency.

Thank you both for the advice! I got a nice little first flush off the cake today :

My plan is to take some prints off the next flush, again thank you for the advice! I really appreciate it.

Those look good!
Also I find the fruits/caps tend to be a bit bigger second flush so it isn't a bad idea to take prints from 2nd flushes as you're more likely to get a larger print. Not that it really matters when you only need a speck of spores to colonize a whole jar haha

Thank you! Yeah it's been really exciting to learn as much as I can as I've been going along. I still have so much to learn and I'm just excited to learn! After they dried in the dehydrator all night it was 6.2 grams off that one cake. I'll definitely be trying agar to grain spawn to bulk going forward, but this was a nice toe dip in the waters ✌️

Yeah it is a lot of fun to grow these bastards.
Check out the agar plates in my signature when you start with agar. I've been using them for a while now and they are incredible. Don't know why more people don't use them but it may have to do with the fact that the post in my signature is relatively new.
The SFF shoebox tek is a great tek that goes from start to finish to grow in bulk as well - it's how I grow most of my mushrooms. Monotubs would give me way more mushrooms than I know what to do with lol. Also don't have the space for them

I was literally looking into shoeboxes for the exact same reason, monotobs seem too big for me right now. I went the lazy route and bought pre-made agar plates from a guy on reddit but once I get through these plates I'm going to do that agar tek as well.
Right now I have some pf cakes I'm going to see if they colonize without contams & try to spawn those to a shoebox with Coco coir and Verm. I think that'll be a fun project to test my sterile tek ability and the next logical step in this process.
Sounds so trivial but I was geeking out at a couple Gs from a cake, I can't wait for the first bulk grow now, luckily patience is a virtue in this hobby so I can use that time to read and experiment. Thanks for sharing the knowledge, I definitely appreciate it!

Don't do that. Agar is too easy/cheap to be giving others easy money to do it for you. I know you've probably already realized that, but for next time
I hope your cakes do well! I remember my first cakes I was checking on them by the hour for growth haha.

Yeah it was the classic hit buy before I came to my senses. I won't be doing that in the future 😅
Thanks, they've been good so far.
