ID help huge dish-like cap
    #26934424 - 09/14/20 01:38 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat. North east US.
On the edge of forest and pasture clearing for a farm.
Growing next to compost pile from farm compost.

Spore print is black but “oily” almost, not normal spore print that I’m used to. It bled rather than left a print of that makes any sense.

The mushroom itself is very beefy.
The stem is not hollow.
The crowded gills feel wet when you touch them. The gills look like ashes, really quite beautiful.
The gills look delicate but hold up to pressure with out breaking.

The flat top feels like a leather.  It reminds me of a wine cap in someways except the flat almost dish like top is throwing me off.

Smells Good. Almost sweet.

You should know that flat, open caps are just another stage of maturity. Wine caps usually don't get this far in their life cycles because of insect infestations, but many mushrooms will open up and flatten out when fully mature.
