Growing pink oysters on banana leaves?

Hello, I'm not very experienced with outdoor beds but in the subtropical area I live I have access to lots of banana psuedo-stems and leaves that normally go to waste...I read that all oyster species break down lignocelulosic compounds which I believe banana plants contain. I was thinking about making an outdoor bed and inoculating with pink oyster grain spawn since it's approaching fall here and temperatures will be within the range for pink oyster mycelium to survive and hopefully fruit. Does anyone think it would enjoy this substrate or have any advice on how to make a bed like this work? I also have access to lots of coconut husks and palm fronds. How about keeping out pests?

I'm not much of an expert on the breakdown of what's in banana stems/leaves, but if you can get the moisture content right and pasteurize if possible I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Oysters work well on stuff like corncobs and I think this should be similar enough.

Thanks! I'll try lime pasteurization and post the results.

You would be much better off doing heat pasteurization. You are just asking for trouble otherwise.

Heat is better for sure, but I've seen a lot of folks use lime with success for oysters. Used to be kinda the standard of commercial growers in this forum 4 or 5 years ago.

Pink Oysters and other oyster will for sure love banana leaves.

I harvested the dry banana leaves and cut them in short pieces (could've been even shorter). Then I pasteurized them for 01:30h with temperature around 60-75ºC (did a bad job in avoiding the temperature to go above 70ºC). Then i let the leaves cool and dry a bit, until a few drops of water appear after squeezing them, and then put them in these bags with grain spawn (sorghum grain).
If I recall correctly it took almost 2 weeks for full colonization, after which i cut the top of the bag and started to mist it. 1 week later I got my fruits as the pictures show.

I believe I seen a post from Roger Rabbit about banana leaves. I have quite a few trees and would love to use the leaves in a similar manner. Usually I compost with them and the worms love them.

Coming back around to give an update: I got one wimpy pink oyster with this method. In hindsight I should have used all of the spawn in one area rather than splitting it between a couple different patches. I also inoculated right before a dry spell and wasn't too good about keeping it watered. Lesson learned!
