1st time grower and long time closet reader! So, I have been wanting to grow some mushies for years and finally got the chance to during quarantine. I inoculated 6 BRF jars and 2 multi grain spawn bags with B+ Cubensis this past month. The grain jars did great. I waited for them to fully colonize and then an extra week and a half to consolidate. The spawn bags did not colonize so I threw them out. Here’s some pics of the grain jars:

Anyways, I built a SGFC that was 105qt due to the 6 cakes and 2 spawn bags but once the spawn bags were gone I realized it was going to be way too big. I decided to use the 2L Tek instead seeing that I only had 6 cakes left.

I put perlite in the bottom of the bottles and Polyfil at the top and was misting and fanning daily and also have a 6500K light that is on a 12/12 schedule. The cakes started to pin on Tuesday but I noticed that they were growing super slow and also looked a bit off. My house is pretty cold and the temp is usually 70° and the humidity in that room was around 50%. I have read probably a few hundred articles on how to do this and made sure that everything was done in the cleanest way possible. Use isopropyl alcohol and gloves whenever I was around the cakes and also flame sterilized the needle between cakes. From what I have have read cakes would much rather have more growing room than a 2L could provide and so need the humidity to be 80+ so I decided to move them into the SGFC today. I was very hesitant to do this at first because I did not want to touch the cakes and damage them but I realized that it would probably be best and would probably only leave a couple of bruises. The SGFC is 105qt with 1/4 in. holes every 2”. I have 5 1/3” of moist perlite in the tub and the temp is at 70° with the humidity at 80% and rising. I know 5 cakes in that big of a fruiting chamber is absurd and will be hard to dial in but I work from home and they are in the room next to me. I will be able to mist and fan whenever it is necessary. My pins look very weird and I’m positive that I contracted some type of contam along the way. They are short and fat and also look grayish. I am almost positive that it is Verticillium. Please let me know what I can do to speed up this process and hopefully salvage these cakes and get some fruits. It has been about 4 days since pins appeared and they are growing but not at the rate I would want them to. All of the cakes have around 30+ pins on them and most of the pins just popped up about 2 days ago. In the second cake picture you can see my biggest pin on the far right. It has been growing for almost 3 days and is only that size. PLEASE HELP! I know there is something wrong with them but they are pinning like crazy and growing but very slowly! Here are the pics I took an hour ago of the cakes and SGFC situation:

Please let me know if you think it was smart to get them out of the 2L where there was no airflow because it was in a closet and the temp was 70° with 50% humidity. I’m trying to save these guys and get some fruits so I thought it was best to take them out of the closet and put them in the corner of the room in the SGFC where it’s 70° but with a much, much higher humidity. They will also get FAE this way

I also made sure to wear latex gloves that were sanitized with isopropyl alcohol and a mask when moving the cakes into the SGFC. I stuck a finger under the aluminum foil on the bottom and gently grabbed the tops of the cakes with 2 fingers when moving. I did notice that a few of the cakes bruised blue when I put them in there but only on the spots that were touched.
The cakes were dunked for 20 hours in distilled water and then rolled in vermiculite. I made sure to wash them off before the dunk and prior to rolling them in the vermiculite. They were birthed on 9/5, I saw my first pin on 9/8 and today is 9/11. Most of the pins popped up in the last two days. These pics are from this Tuesday (9/8)
These pics are from Wednesday (9/9)

I do not have any pics from yesterday but they grew in size. Here’s a pic of the first day of pinning compared to today. This is 3 days worth of growth for the biggest pin in these pics. Most of the other pins popped up yesterday or the day before

They look alright to me. Some seem a little grayish but you just have to wait and see what happens. I’d use a little more foil maybe, you don’t want any of the cake touching the perlite.
They may be okay in that giant SGFC but I would’ve just poked a few holes in those 2L I think. And once the cakes are colonized you don’t have to go crazy with iso and gloves and all that, if they’re clean they’ll be alright. There’s already tons of mold spores and bacteria in the air landing on them.

The problem with the 2L was getting a flush seal. The perlite at the bottom was drying out super fast and they were also in the closet. FAE was practically non existent and the humidity was at half of what it should have been at. I put them into the SGFC because it will hopefully give them room to grow, provide sufficient FAE and humidity and it much easier to maintain. To mist and fan the cakes in the bottles I was having to take each top half of the bottles off, mist them, fan them and then put the tops back on Multiple times a day to provide enough air exchange. I read a ton of reviews of people doing the 2L Tek and most people said that they should have just made a SGFC and put them into that because it provides everything that is needed.

CAN ANYONE HELP? Every single person on this site knows just how much time and work go into producing these miracle fruits and it would be ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING to lose my entire grow to something like Verticillium. I am listening to ANYBODY and EVERYBODY because I have very little experience doing this. I am surprised I got this far but now that I’m at the “finish line” I just want to do whatever I can do produce some fruits. I read that you can eat them with Verticillium if they are dried out and that is what I am going for. I just need to somehow speed up the growth process so that these pins don’t end up becoming aborts or inedible

Calm down a bit and chill out man, your cakes look completely fine to me. Whatever you are doing now will not have an impact on whether they get contaminated or not. Either there were contams already during inocculation, which will show up at some point, or not, and then they will be quite resistant at this stage because they have fully colonized the cakes. All you should do is dial in the SGFC and leave them alone. I'm sure you will get some nice fruits. I would suggest putting more cakes into your SGFC, put at least 15 cakes instead of 5 in your tote. Otherwise there is too much evaporation and it cannot contain the humidity, a SGFC is not working well with a small number of cakes. Otherwise just let them do their thing at their own speed, they look healthy.

I would love to put more cakes in there but this is all I have left. I figured that they would have more FAE in the SGFC and also the humidity is at 90% instead of 50%. I moved them closer together last night. I am also not sure if I am misting them correctly. I have pics on my phone of how it should and shouldn’t look but it’s completely different in person. They have been in fruiting for 7 days now with pins showing up 4 days ago.
