That's not what I meant my dude. when spawning I'd put a casing. Didn't follow up with the whole convo about this grow, so dunno if the casing was actually put on AKA's tubs.
I would probably sprinkle some toasted verm on top of that kind of grow. I had experienced this only a few times (with cubes) I peeled the myc layer of, came of real easy. it worked alright as the pins were underneath it.

Save your tubs by using clean spawn in them. Casing layers are to help provide a better microclimate for pinning.

I wouldn’t case a bacterial sub just cuz it would prolong fruiting but I’ve never tried it either so idk it might work.
Those pictures I posted earlier are all fairly normal natalensis growth, it’s just weird myc not bacteria.
Anyway I finally poured my first slants.

lol funny how things change. Almost 20 years ago my dad found a little weed plant in my room and lost his fucking mind. Yesterday I get this picture asking me what to do next.

just a tad heavy on the agar aka. and if u vent the cap with a 1/8 inch hole with a sfd inside the caps u will have better growth and it will still b able to breathe good without having to leave the caps loose and parafilming them.

heres how i usually pour mine u can kinda see how there is more surface area and i dont always use sticks either. most of the time il just use straight mea. i didnt have any pics of the vented caps this was b4 i started doing that. since ive started doing that my cultures are way better off in storage so from now on ima b venting every cap i get cuz it really makes a big difference if u ask me 😃👍

lol alright cool I was just gonna look that up cuz it’s been forever since I read about slants. I actually even dumped a bunch out of that one too. The thing filled up way quicker than I thought I almost overflowed it.
That was my tester yesterday I’m gonna probably make like ten today or tomorrow.
It’s good to be back in the SAB now that’s it dropped 30 degrees in one day. Gonna go hard this winter.

What tubes do you use for slants? I’ve got a McMaster catalog that has some I think might work well but I’ve never poured any.

I've been thinking about making a couple slants for some good clones I've made. How long do slants actually store for? I'd like to make two slants for each of my best clones from different cultures so I can always come back to them and get started on some new cultures to try.

Slants are much easier to squirt than pour. Big syringe
I make like 150 slants at a time, and store them blank. Then use as needed
When pheno hunting i will immediately slant a culture, assign it a numeric id or barcode THEN test the culture and take notes
I really love those big rolls of sequential number stickers too, makes it waaay easier to keep track of a few hundred different cultures

Damn son! You must have a giant fridge for myco purpose I will have to start with like at least 50 though because I've started racking up on good clones i'd like to try to store. What kind of rack do you use to store them? or is sideways in a container fine?

Well thats good to know 2 years is quite a long time, I really am just getting tired of having some beautiful agar plates start turning to pucks after a couple months. Are dried out agar plates still viable to take a transfer from to get it going again?

I’ve used a piece of a plate that had dried and curled up. I tried to cut it and it crumbled like a chip so I just put a piece on a new plate. Took a minute but it came to life.
