Pinning Problems?

Hey all! I’ve been following EvilMushroom666s BRF TEK and have ran into a little bit of confusion with the pinning process. I seem to have this behemoth of a mushroom growing but it doesn’t look like there’s any other primordia or pins starting to form. I’m about 7 days in the SGFC. Any tips or advice would be awesome, I could just need patience. Just a little thrown off as to why that giant mush is doing good when none of the others have formed.

Cakes are dry on the surface, foil pieces are too big. You should have the triple amount of cakes to keep up moisture. Perlite may also be dry.

Thank you! I’m currently re-soaking my perlite and will transfer them to smaller sheets of tin foil. Any tips to combat the lack of cakes? This is my first grow so I did a small batch for the trial run, good to know that the amount of cakes in the SGFC actually matters aswell.

As a sgfc provides a massive amount of passive air exchange, you need moisture always on spot, so the more cakes, the more moisture they can handle themselves. For now i'd give them a good mist.

Thank you again, I’ll make sure I make more cakes on the next go. Hopefully some additional misting is enough to keep the moisture levels up. Any other tips for the next go around? I’ve been thinking of trying out a monotub tek, but felt as BRF was the safest place to start.

I usually recommend to skip pf tek and directly move into agar and making shoeboxes. Just building a sgfc is a lot of work and the yield isn't impressive. Shoeboxes are an easy game, set and forget.

Couldn't agree more. Transitioned from large scale 66qt monos to smaller, more selective Shoebox grows recently. So glad I made the transition. There's nothing wrong with SGFCs or large monotubs, but holy hell are the Shoeboxes easy. 1 quart of spawn per Shoebox...does wonders on narrowing down contams into smaller batches, so an entire PC cycle of grain isn't wasted on one grow if there are competing bacteria present in the spawn jars.
Transition to bulk grows using the Shoebox tek dude. It's worth it.

After re watering my perlite, and changing the tinfoil. I’ve got more pins!!! The rest of the cakes seem to be pulling through now. Thank you so much!!! I’ll post an updated photo later today, they’re looking amazing.
