Yeah. There are too many people everywhere. It's like virus should spread across the globe and wipe out a bunch of mouth breathers.

My dream would be to go where I could have 100 acres in a little cabin and not have to see anyone except for a couple of times a year. No highways. No stores. Just a man working the land.

It's happened before, just the first time we know of that humans did it.

When we finally off ourselves, or biology eats us, it'll all bounce back. Maybe a couple of million years to get back interesting, but it'll happen.

Yeah I'm on the plasma universe / solar disaster boat. I'm pretty certain I won't make it to 60 because the sun is going to explode. For all I know that reduction is twofold due to the disaster cycle and the weakening magnetosphere, inciting a biological response in the local species because there's probably DNA markers if you think about it that would indicate to them to reproduce less when there's a scarcity in food coming up. Because it's happened over and over and over. This isn't fringe wacko stuff. It's proven, peer reviewed science and historical data. The sun is going to likely micronova either in the next solar cycle or after that, <30 years. Our species will be lucky to survive, I couldn't care less about some bunnies and deer.

I had a very similar thought while camping recently. Man goes from primitive to advanced only to yearn for a primitive way of life again. The synthetic world is destroying our humanity.

Humans have no natural enemies except other humans.
And armies take the robust members of the species instead of the weak.
When a population grows unrestrained it doesn't take rocket appliances to figure out what happens next.

While I certainly agree with the general idea of the article, this statement is a bit naive:
"ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪᴄ ɪs ʙᴇɪɴɢ ᴜʀɢᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ʜᴏʟᴅ ᴛɪɢʜᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɴᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ ᴡᴇ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ʟᴇғᴛ"

Oh! OK! so if I just hold tight to nature the issue will resolve.
I will get right on that, thank you!

some spots may be fucked for a while, nuclear plants will meltdown with no one maintaining them, a bunch of chernnobyls everywhere, some of them might even make it into the ocean like japan and who knows what that will do

plus I wonder if nuke stashs will rot, maybe they are all locked underground so they are fine

I think life is extremely rare, you need the right everything to line up, arnt most earth like planets massive, the gravity is probably fucked, and you need a jupitor the right distance away to stop bombardment, and you have to be in the goldilocks zone

We are in a simulation. Also only nothing can produce nothing as a product.

A lot of this destruction happens on a small needless scale. People just are not mindful of anything needs (nature's, animals) beyond their own.

I lived in rural BC for most of my life and I noticed the decline of frogs, birds and animals in part by small scale bad land stewardship. Clearing large swaths of trees for driveways and logging for money. Draining ponds and clearing right up to creeks causing erosion and moisture loss. Just general degradation of the land.

Also a curious thing I noticed where people needed to clear land to build giant garages to park machines to clear land. after the land was cleared the owner would periodically tinker on his land with the machines and generally fuck things up.

Also when I lived there I took a low-maintenance approach to caring for the property. Mowed the two fields twice a year and left natural the rest of the time. Planted native plants and useful non natives to control erosion and animal habitat (and food) used succession of large to small trees to shade out weeds.

Neighbours would be out with ride on mowers, line trimmers, blowers, machinery every weekend. I think I have more peace and quiet now that I live in the city :p

The earth has gone through mass extinctions greater than that. over 96% of all marine species and 75% of land species were wiped out wiped out during a 60 000 year period during the Permian-Triassic Extinction.

This is not the lowest valley on the graph and there will likely be a higher peak some day. it goes up and down as new environmental pressures come and life adapts to those pressures.
