Mixed spores on agar 1

I was lucky enough to get an AA+ print and a golden halo print. I was wondering if I grew them both out separate on agar then took a small cutting off each and put those together on agar if they would grow together. Like an albino golden spore🤔.

I'd imagine if you mixed both spores together and streaked em out on agar, allowed formation of mycelium, and then grew out isolated mycelial cultures from your plates before you had a lawn then you'd eventually come across a hybrid of the two that exhibited the characteristics you're looking for. However, I can't imagine you'd have any way of knowing what's hybridized and what isn't prior to actually seeing the fruiting bodies and so it'd really be a crapshoot.
If you look at a generalized basidio life cycle, the haploid mycelial growth phase (the phase prior to plasmogamy in the picture)is rather short lived, and so by the time you're seeing growth on your plates the mycelium you're looking at is diploid meaning mating has already occurred. So if you were to introduce mycelial isolates from two different plates onto the same plate, what you're doing is really just putting two individual organisms together that have already mated and no longer can.
Now if you were to follow through with the experiment you proposed, there may be a way to weaken cell walls at the junction of the two cultures which may then result in hybridization, however I don't have much knowledge on that subject.
I'm sure this topic has been talked about ad nauseam in the past.

Mixing spores works best when the samples are both fresh, that way you can have the best chance for simultaneous germination.

Awesome thanks pasty. What about if you made a print of one, then took another print right on top, then to agar?
