Peyote seedlings 6 months check up
    #26922309 - 09/07/20 02:00 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hey!

This is my first time with LW. I have two different varieties , one in each up. They still have lids, below is a photo of one, it's pretty full of holes.  I bottom water when they get really light and I must the top.  Every 3-4 weeks probably.

They are still very delicate + they tip under their weight a little, I have to press the soil a little to stand them back upright.

How are we looking at 6 months? Should I remove the lids yet, and once I do, how often do I bottom water/mist?

  Thanks!

They look ok considering. I'd get rid of the lids, with that amount of holes they're not doing much. The plants are already acclimatised.

Bottom water whenever the soil seems dry. You can keep using the weight of the pot to gauge this. Leave the pot to soak in a shallow tray of water for about 30-40 minutes, or until the soil is moist the entire way through. The water will be drawn upwards into the soil.

You can also put a topdressing of pebbles/scoria/coarse sand on top of the soil or just around the seedlings themselves to stabilise them. Will prevent them shifting around and help prop them up.

Thank you! That was a really great reply.

I topdressed them with some coarse sand and they seem more supported. They're in those bowls bottom watering.

They sit in a windowsill so I just cut the top of the lid off and left the side as a gaurd against the breeze.

They look much happier with the extra support.

Hopefully the bottom watering went fine and the soil is wet to field capacity and they're not sitting in the water anymore.

They do well on windowsills at this age. Good luck! :vineclimb:

Thanks! Yeah they do look happier with the sand supporting them.

Yeah I took them out of the water at 45 min or so once they had a little weight to them. Seem fine!

Some of the seedlings grew tall and then grew a ball on top that looks like a teeny mature button, spikes and everything , is this normal in your experience?

The little balls growing on top aren't normal but it's common for plants that have had some damage to the tip while growing. It looks as though something destroyed the growing tip and they've just pupped as a response.

The buttons growing now look good, they're receiving enough light and should cover the lanky bases in time. You wont even know they are there.
