Extracting alkaloids from chacruna

I added acidic water (pH 3, sulfuric acid) to fresh chacruna leaves and boiled it for a few hours, filtered it and boiled it down until I ended up with about 800 mL of liquid.
When I basify this liquid, instantly it starts changing colour from reddish brown to greenish gray. It starts off as just a few patches of gray on the surface, like something is precipitating out. By the time it hits pH 10, its completely changed colour to greeny gray.
It looks like an orange oily layer appears on the surface. When I add naptha, the naptha remains clear. I haven't been able to freeze precipitate anything outta the naptha yet.
Why does the colour change so much, is this alkaloids precipitating out of the solution?

This thread was moved from The Ethnobotanical Garden.
Reason: Not a topic for the Ethnobotanical Garden and you do not have access to the Chemistry forum yet.
The Psychedelic Experience will be a better fit for now. DMT extraction is a topic that can be discussed there.

Once you add the naptha, are you just letting it sit on top? You need to shake in a figure 8 motion for about 5 minutes once an hour or so, for 4 different shaking sessions (ie add naptha, shake 5 minutes, wait 45 minutes or so for it to settle on top, shake 5 minutes, wait 45 minutes, etc. 4 times) and then wait an hour for it to all go to the top and seperate then pull the naptha. You can then add fresh naptha again and repeat the process and then pull the naptha again. Then freeze precip that.

From multiple attempts and major messes the only effective way I found to extract from chacruna was STB with calcium hydroxide.
Your ph of 10 isn't strong enough to freebase all the DMT. I would suggest pushing it much higher, 12 or more. I think technically 10.5 is the minimum but you use the base to further lyse the cells and free the alkaloids. Let it sit a week in strong base if you're in no rush. It's going to be a big oily mess though. You should have defatted the soup before you based it and even then you will still probably need to do a mini A/B at the end to get the product usable.
PS: because of how oily, fatty and full of chlorophyll chacruna is if you shake it it will emulsify terribly, will take aaaages to seperate. Tipping the solvent and solution slowly upside down and right again for 5 minutes then letting it settle for 5 minutes, four times, then pulling should give you DMT rich but only as fuck solvent. You should probably base it hella more first though.
To clean up the mess drop 4 pulls of your oily solvent straight onto ~200ml of household vinegar in a jar, shake the living hell out of it for 5-10 minutes. Then suck the the vinegar out from under the dirty solvent and put it in a clean container. Base it to >11, it will now look like milk, whilst warm pull again a few times with fresh solvent. (as above) That solvent now contains very clean spice.

What’s the average % you get from chacruna leaves?

1%
Harvesting during warm months and morning or late afternoon is critical though. It's a funny plant. Harvested during the day in winter may yield 0.2%.

This is fresh chacruna leaves I'm using. Some white crystals precipitated out but the yield was very low. I been having similar low yields with MHRB so I'm just working on improving my methods

Take note of my harvesting tips above, dry them first, then shred to powder in a blender, then hit them.
If you're having the same result with MHRB maybe you aren't basing enough? Ramp that pH up to 12 and let it sit a good long time before pulling.
