Habitat: growing from unknown rotted wood in a mixed forest, NY
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Gills: yellowish orange
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem: short, ~2” vail remains
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap: 4-5” yellowish orange
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color: Reddish brown
Very important!

Bruising: none seen
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:  faint smell of anise and cinnamon
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

I can confirm Gymnopilus. Reading this I would think G. luteus.

Thanks for your help. I know Gymnopilus can be impossible to pin down without a microscope. I am still fairly new to the genius so I appreciate and was mostly just looking for the confirmation. These look very different then other Gymnopilus that I found, that I believe are G.Luteus. Thats why I thought that these could have been different (possibly G.voitkii?) or just older specimens but I couldn’t tell.. My first finds we more yellow than orange and showed definite green bruising, whereas I did not observe any on these.

These are the first ones as a comparison.

I used mycokey and their artificial intelligence told me that if you eat that you will die.

I thought Gymnopilus luteus, but my knowledge is limited on most species of mushrooms.

Ive never had any luck with those apps. I’m sure they will improve with time but as they are now they are mostly crap. I do appreciate your input though.
